Had he only gone to an SEC school, he could run the 100 in under 9 seconds.
Penn Staters belong at Penn State. The problem with a lot of kids is they just don’t know they are Penn Staters yet. -jesse. @ BSD

So Bolt runs 10.4384 meters per second (100meters / 9.58seconds)
I’m sure it’s not that simple, but Pryor would come out to 9.23788 meters / second with a 4.33s 40m run.
I believe this appears more accurate, and furthermore I’m willing to bet Bolt would run over 11 meters / second in 40m.

an error that I'm not going to bother to fix
the 40 is yards not meters. I don’t feel like doing any math right now, so I’m not gonna figure out how many m/s that is, but it is gonna be slower, since yards are shorter than meters. Doesn’t matter anyway, as Pryor is already shown to be slower even with the benefit of the error in your calculation

You can tell how bored I am when I'm willing to actually do math
Pryor allegedly ran 40 yards in 4.33 seconds so:
40 yds = 36.576 meters, the 36.576m/4.33s = 8.45 m/s
So I’m guessing if Bolt runs 100 meters in 9.58s, he could probably run 40 yards in less than 8.45s (although it does take time to get up to speed, but I’m guessing Bolt accelerates pretty quickly)
If I made some error, please correct me, as I really do suck at math.
the mistakes aren't really in the math
but either in your interpretation, or perhaps just a typo.
you either mean:
So I’m guessing if Bolt runs 100 meters
in 9.58 sat 10.44 m/s, he could probably run 40 yardsin lessat more than 8.45sm/s
or

Second Coming of Bob Hayes?
Come play football, Usain! What I like about this race is that it damages the claim that Usain was only winning his races in the last 40m. He had and held his lead from mid-race onwards (it was an impressive performance by Gay to keep up). It’s now more likely that his ‘slow start’ was just an artifact of the Beijing race. He could be the fastest person in the world over 60m as well, but until he races Devon Smith who knows.
Guy has a sportsmanship problem though. He totally ignored Gay when Gay was shaking hands and wishing everyone good luck before the race.
