BSD College Pick 'Em on ESPN
Back by popular demand, I'm pleased to announce the third annual BSD College Pick 'Em game hosted on ESPN. Here's what you do. Go to ESPN and sign up for an account if you don't have one already. It's completely free to do so.
Then log in and join the following group.
Group Name: Black Shoe Diaries
Password: joepa
If you're not familiar with the ESPN format, there is a pretty neat twist to the game. Each week they give you ten games to pick from. You pick your ten winners, and then you rank your picks based on how confident you are in them. You get ten points for getting your most confident pick correct, and one point for getting your least confident pick correct. They have a feature where you can sign up for a reminder email every week so you don't forget to submit your picks. I recommend you use it, because if you miss one week your chances are pretty much shot.
We always manage to come up with some kind of prize. Last year I gave away a copy of the Sports Illustrated College Football history book. In years past I've given away $50 gift cards. I'm not sure what we'll do this year, but we'll come up with something. We also invite the winner of each week to offer up a post previewing the games on the ballot the following week which we will put on the front page.
The other thing you need to know is we're all competing for second place, because CoolHandLucky wins. Every. Single. Time. So go sign up and make your picks.

CoolHandLucky
Who is he? I don’t recognize the name from these BSD boards. Is he a lurker or just a different name?

He's a Lurker
I spoke with him a bit via email last year. I think he’s a lawyer living in the D.C. area. Says he has a lot of time on his hands so he wastes it reading anything and everything about college football.

So much for
Lawyers and their 100 hour workweeks. Can you make partner if 75 of those hours are spent on BSD or researching your Fantasy and Pickem’ choices?

How would you react if you hired that dude
And you get your bill and it’s got line items that include Legal Research, Blackshoediaries: 75.5hours? Pissed? Or, kinda psyched?

Surprisingly
Many of the biggest college football bloggers are lawyers. BON, Rocky Top Talk, and Dawg Sports come to mind. In fact, one of our own BSD mods is a lawyer if I recall.

It makes sense
We science types are not known for our exciting and insightful writing, whereas lawyers write and argue for a living.

How many lawyers do we have on this site?
And this guy is a lurker and wins this thing a lot? Does this say something about the quality of lawyer we have here? Or am I about to get sued for defamation?

32 People already signed up
Nicely done, BSD. I suspect we’ll have 200 before we’re done. I think we had 185 for the NCAA basketball tournament this year.

Prizes
I think good prizes might be:
A tee-shirt from the BSD store
A copy of “We Are Penn State” magazine signed by the BSD staff
Grotto party with the women’s volleyball team and/or the BSDivas*
.
*In the event the BSDivas do not agree to the grotto party, BSDivas will be replaced by Brandon Ware, a slab of thick-cut, hickory smoked bacon, and ReadingRambler

My suggestion ...
… tailgate hosted by Mike at Alabama next year, serving the beer of the winner’s choice.

Nice plan
But Houston isn’t very close to Tuscaloosa. I’m three states and 700 miles away. It would be like you (assuming you are in PA) hosting the tailgate party at Illinois this year.

I still like the idea
Heck, we drove through Bama on the way to H-town when we moved, we can do it again :) Only THIS TIME I’m coming. I won’t be with Mike at the Iowa tailgate this year, but Tuscaloosa next year would be awesome.

Yeah
If you recall, it took a day and a half to get from Tuscaloosa to Houston.

Navy v. Ohio State
Triple-option versus the Pistol, right? It’ll be nice to see something other than the pro-set or the spread.

Well I have to admit he is amazing. If you talked to him I hope you got some picks, you could pick up some easy cash. Why doesn’t he pick us some games on sportsbook. I know we would be the riches fans around.

I'm hoping for beginners luck, since I haven't done these before
A few friends of mine set up an NCAA Pick ‘em thing last year, and I know jack squat about basketball other than you try to get the ball through the hoop and you can’t move with the ball unless it bounces, and I ended up winning.
