Why does the Heisman matter?
As far as I can tell, none of us really care about the Heisman (the obvious exception of course). And that might be because of the fact the Penn State isn't really the type of program that generates a lot of Heisman buzz. Maybe if we were USC, or Miami (of old) or whoever, as a fanbase we'd care a lot more.
But when even TWWL themselves say that it's a popularity contest, how can anyone take it seriously anymore? Barring any sort of crazy unforeseen circumstance, it will be Tebow. And if not him, then one of the Big12 qbs. And EVERYONE ALREADY KNOWS THIS. There's no suspense, and the season hasn't even started yet. I just don't understand why it's considered a great award anymore.

Here's a noodle-tickler
So the Heisman is a popularity contest, and most of NCAAF reporting is based on popularity and the cult of personality. In fact if popularity won you games USC would be 10 time NC. But popularity doesn’t win you games, it just wins you the Heisman. The funny part is, the Heisman winner almost never wins their bowl game. See this (and add 1 to the loss column in all the stats since Bradford fell victim to the curse after the article was written)
The part that I like is that Joe’s got the best bowl wins of anyone, and has coached the least Heismans of any “great” coach. This is not by chance.

I'm proud that PSU has held the tradition
of making Heisman winners cry in their bowl games.

Well, really
We make most people cry in bowl games.

A M E N
brutha!
Though none of us will be complaining when the next PSU player earns it!
I’ll appreciate team unity, no “issues”, a packed stadium, plain uni’s, THE White-Out, and a NC over a singular award, compiled largely of media bias!

Yeah, I pretty much stopped caring about "voted" awards a while ago
it is nice when PSU players win them, but meh. For pretty much every popular award there’s usually someone out there that’s actually better, but with less hype. I’m kinda sick how before the season has even started we can pretty much already predict who will be sitting up on stage during the Heisman Trophy presentation.

The biggest problem with the Heisman
… is that it bears no resemblance to what it claims to be. If it were actually “most outstanding player”, you’d think more than five non-QB, non-RB players would have won it in 74 years.
(There’s also the whole bit about it always going to some who plays for a top three team. Granted, an outstanding player is probably going to make his team as a whole good, and a higher proportion of outstanding players will be on the best teams, but you can often make a case for a player from a mid-teens-ranked team that would be utterly atrocious without him.)

Heisman
I agree. That is why you see clowns like Gino Torretta, Danny Wuerffel, and Ty Detmer win it when Marshall Faulk, Jake Plummer, and Rocket Ismail would have been the better choice those years. The Heisman voters are a joke. They are about as bad as the idiots who vote for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

But will quickly return to not caring
When Zug teaches the CFB world a lesson and vaporizes it, ending the tradition in a dramatic display of smoldering steamy remnants.
