They should have to have their practice time cut by half and strictly monitored by the NCAA. And the unofficial punishment of a recruiting class imploding.

I think we may want to cut UM and RR a little slack here. This sounds like it may be a lot of smoke with very little fire. Check out MGOBLOG for a pretty good run down of the holes in the story. Considering our own experience with Outside the Lines we should all be very familiar being on the wrong side of a journalist looking for a story.

The takeaway for me
As far as violations and infractions go, this is probably pretty minor stuff. I imagine Michigan will do an internal investigation and institute some kind of self inflicted punishment like sending the players and coaches to training on NCAA rules and maybe reducing practice time by ten minutes this year. That part of the story will go away without the NCAA dropping the hammer.
But the big story here in my opinion is the fact that six or seven current and former players are talking to the press and ratting out Rodriguez. That tells me Michigan is a team divided. There is a large group of players who do not buy into what RR is selling. That is deadly for a football team, and I think it spells the beginning of the end for the RIchRod era in MIchigan.

One guy dismissed for his role in a cocain bust
The dust up with Braylon Edwards and the #1 jersey
The fiasco over his contract buyout with West Virginia
It all adds up to RichRod running out of rope. There is going to be tremendous pressure on him to take Michigan to a bowl game this year. If he can’t do it I think he’s done.
I’m just amazed at how Michigan bloggers are able to come up with an explanation for everything and just look the other way. After a decade of Lloyd Carr they were so desperate for the spread offense. I’m just shocked at how they sold their souls to get it.

What’s minor to a lot of college football fans isn’t necessarily minor in the eyes of the NCAA. The excessive disregard for participation, if true, can have repercussions some people don’t realize.
Student-athlete welfare is something that the NCAA has been pushing towards its members pretty hard lately. With the deaths of players in practice the last few years, including Rashidi Wheeler from Northwestern and Ereck Plancher at Central Florida (both under questionable circumstances), the NCAA has taken a harder look at what rules are being followed on the field/court/pool, etc.

Make another t-shirt. The 35-21 shirt was hilarious, but I know you guys can do better. I mean… 35-21… how does one ever top that t-shirt? Pure genius! Such a great win beating the worst Michigan team in 40 years. Yeah… I would say another t-shirt would be punishment enough. And entertaining. It would really make the whole Michigan team feel real bad.
