Herbie Is A Closet PSU Fan
Kirk Herbstreit released his 9th annual "Herbie Awards" today. Unlike every other media pundit and their dog who's picking OSU to win the Big Ten, Herbie has PSU as his champ along with MSU as a sleeper, once again proving my theory that Herbie is a closet PSU fan. And yes, he still thinks we're the #1 student section in the country, hands-down
Herbie also lists Tom Bradley as one of his Top 5 "Head Coaches In Waiting" and Evan Royster as one of his "Rodney Dangerfields" (i.e. players who "don't get enough respect"), has Odrick and Wisniewski on his "All-America Team" and also has Lee and Bowman mentioned for his "Top Inside and Outside Linebackers" respectively. Interestingly enough though, he doesn't have Clark listed on his "Top Dual Threat QBs" list whereas guys like Kansas' Todd Reesing and Baylor's Robert Griffin III make that list.

I don't think Clark is a dual threat QB either
I did starting last season because of the alamo bowl and the oregon game, but as time went on he seemed to play more and more like a regular (single threat?) QB with great movement and escapeability. Not a threat to run half the time, just a threat to buy more time and punish you if you give hime 20 yards of open space in front of him.
And yes, I do think Herbie is a closet PSU fan.
Yeah
To be blunt, Clark is black and athletic and plays QB, so he will be considered to be a “dual threat” by some. I agree with what you said. I think of him as a guy who is not an elite runner, and prefers to always pass, but still can hurt you in short yardage situations. I think his running ability comes more from just his sheer size and strength than anything else. Maybe a little more Ben Roethlisberger and a little less Randall Cunningham. Just a guy with great escapability.
So uhhhh he is a well rounded QB? That sounds right. Why do guys always have to fit certain molds or labels, it is kind of annoying.
Black Shoes. Basic Blues. No Name. All Game.
"Everyone has a plan, until they get punched in the mouth."
He did run for 10 TDs last season
And he is more than mobile, he carries guys with him before he gets tackled most of the time. Just because our offense didn’t revolve around his running abilities doesn’t mean he can’ t be considered a dual threat. Just my 2 cents.
Success without honor is an unseasoned dish; it will satisfy your hunger, but it won't taste good.
Colt McCoy ran for 11 (I think)...
And people don’t consider him a dual-threat QB.
I actually like to see a Clark-McCoy foot race. I bet McCoy’s faster.

Herbie Does
He has Colt as the #2 Dual-Threat QB. But it’s kind of a vague term because you can apply it to any QB that’s athletic/fast/has more than 5 rush TDS. IMO, Clark is a dual threat. The way I see it if I was game planning for PSU am I worried that Clark is going to take off when things break down in the pocket or that they may have a couple designed runs for him? I think the answer is yes so he’s a dual threat.
I knew Clark was a dual threat during the Wiscy game, when he bulled through two defenders and started the legend of the D.C. 17 fist pump.
Oh, and when he threw back across his body for a huge gain later on, which led to BSD Mike attempting to become pregnant with Clark’s children.

Agreed
I like the “suspicion” though that he will bring to the field. The D coaches and D’s will mostly be looking for him to run – ok! – And he continues to pass / effectively run the SpreadHD…UNTIL he see’s the opp on a D misscue/formation – and then he makes you PAY FOR IT with his legs!

Clark v McNabb
Anyone else think Clark plays similar to McNabb, not the college version that ran the option at SU and ran by people, the current day prefer to pass but ill beat you running if i have to McNabb. Also size wise.

Donny can't run anymore...dude is about as fast as Byron Leftwich...
I know that is a lie…but he doesn’t run much at all anymore.

He reminds me more of Roethlisberger
Big. Strong. Plays fast, even if he isn’t particularly fast. Keeps plays alive with his feet, makes plays downfield after doing so.
It could just be the offense, what the Eagles do is really sophisticated, the Steelers much less so.
"far less knowledgeable than the average poster here"
Of course
Roethlisberger is three inches taller than both Clark and McNabb, but suprisingly (and only according to team websites) pretty much the same weight as McNabb, and 8 pounds heavier than Clark.
I do think that McNabb’s weight gain has been a late career effort to stay alive, and, as noted above, cost him a lot of his mobility.
I have to think that based on what Clark did just over the offseason, that with a professional trainer like Maybe had, he will be a 240 pound killing machine by the time the NFL combine rolls around next spring.

Anybody that assumes that a QB is a good runner just because he's black,
needs to be shown some Wally Richardson footage.
The ’95 jNW game = much fun.

Dual Threat....Game Manager..."Gun Slinger"
The labels the media places on QBs gets funnier every year. But typically it has a racist twist….for example….
I’ve heard Brett Favre and Jay Cutler called “gun slingers” because of the risks they take down field and how hard they throw. In the same breath, they describe Donovan McNabb as inaccurate and takes too many risks…
They need to drop the labels because plenty of kids are dual threat now a days because they aren’t forced to play CB, RB, or WR.

Herbie is generally
one of the most even-handed analysts, I like him more than just about any other college pundit.
Happy Hour Valley
is a closet Herbie fan. Don’t lie, you love you some herbstreit. And please, no comments about the gelled hair. You aren’t fooling anyone. You’re jealous. You’d gel your pubes with hot kitchen grease if it meant taking Kirk Herbstreit’s job for 15 minutes.
And, btw, you think you’re jealous? How do you think other former mediocre Ohio State quarterbacks feel? How zuggin pissed would you be if you were Craig Krenzel? While Herbstreit is out smashing on hot Big-12 puss, you’re sitting at home jerking it to the 2002 calendar year and having wet dreams about phantom pass interference calls.
/here end with the biting, from this glorious source.

smashing on hot Big-12 puss
That is awesome, especially when you realize he’s married with that awful brood of kids he brings out on Gameday every now and then (does anyone else find it awkward when one of the kids sits on Corso’s lap???). I can Herbie
smashing on hot Big-12 pusson Friday night and then delivering his Gameday shtick with his family. Classic.

I don't know if he's a closet PSU fan but
I like him a lot because he’s usually levelheaded and his unbiased approach gets under the skin of the Buckey fans who usually aren’t the most unbiased group as a whole.
except when he brings his entire
family of little Herbies on the stage when they do the live from tO$U….and always picks the buckeyes.
