Predicting (incorrectly) the PSU Depth chart
The Scranton Times-Tribune wanted to take a crack at predicting the PSU depth chart. For the most part everything is okay. However, when you leave this man out of the starting lineup:
you obviously don't know what you are talking about.

Not a big fan of the LB core that way
although I could totally see it happening.

I'm not sure how to feel about that
On the one hand, the defensive coaches have been pretty consistent with playing the kid who ‘we just can’t keep off the field’ (Soph Puz, Soph Lee). And keeping Mauti off the field instead of moving Lee inside over Hull would be counterintuitive to that tradition. Not to mention pretty effing disappointing.
I’m trying to tell myself that they won’t go that route.

I always hate rooting against Hull
but I really think Mauti / Stupar need significant playing time. Plus, having the extra speed on the field will be important, since I am assuming they will br reluctant to go to nickle given the secondary depth (similar to the way Bradley would rarely come out of 4-3 with Poz, Connar, Shaw).

I agree
He’s a solid player, but he just isn’t the monster that Mauti and Stupar will/are going to be.

They've also got
The Oline jacked up from left to right.

Another thing
When the defense takes the field for the first series against Akron, I totally want to see Jerome Hayes running out there.

this is true
i remember seeing him one thanksgiving break with a boot on his foot, i believe that was his first year on campus.
ACTUALLY, i ran into him on my 21st birthday at the lion’s den. bought me a shot. i was going to say i can’t believe i almost forgot that, but realized there was a good reason why i almost forgot that entire day.
o, sweet alcohol.

Good to know
He’s been one of my favorites for a few years. I loved reading about his oldschool oline ‘nastiness’ on bwi two years ago. Dude’s got to stay healthy, tho. Right now it’s a strained pec. Anybody ever had an injured pec? My ole man had an old pectoral tear injury and the thing just looked ridiculous. That’s a super-important muscle to an Olineman, too.
Would love to see him tear shit up between Wiz & Landolt this year.

Is Lynn actually projected ahead of Wallace?
And I was thinking one of the younger LBs would start over Hull.

99% sure...
That Lee is being shifted to inside linbacker… That would most likely mean a Bowman, Lee, Mauti 1st team in my opinion…

Who is this LB Bauti you speak of?
Is he some sort of combination of Bowman/Mauti? He sounds like he’s going to be good!

When do we see ...
… an official depth chart from the PSU staff? Do we get one in the week leading up to the opening game?
And is it typically available online (gopsusports.com maybe?)?

During the week before the game.
They’ll have the “Game Notes” up on gopsusports.com. It’s usually VERY long, about 50-70 pages. But it’ll be in there.

Got a rumor from a prominent alumni
that they want to RS Colasanti this year. If that is true, that probably means that Lee is inside with Hull as back-up. However, I haven’t seen it anywhere else.
So far Colasanti has been a bit of a dissapointment.
by PaJoe on Aug 6, 2009 3:55 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Colasanti
It’s about 99 percent that he’ll redshirt.
You said he’s been sort of a disappointment. I won’t disagree, but if he didn’t use his RS this year, and then only had one year left after Lee’s departure, then Colasanti would have been a huge bust.
So, I guess him RS this year is the lesser of two evils.

I don't want them to put in a player that isn't ready
but, seriously, what is the deal with him? He’s getting eclipsed by Mauti and Stupar, both sophs.
by dawsonPSU10 on Aug 6, 2009 6:37 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I think Colasanti was
projected as a MLB, Mauti and Stupar as OLB. Lee’s injury last year murked up the depth chart – ultimately Colasanti would have been Lee’s understudy in the middle last year and be ready to step in the starter’s role this year. He wasn’t ready last year apparently, with Hull taking most snaps. Now he has two experienced guys ahead of him.
Makes sense for the program and Colasanti to RS this year.

I agree,
let’s hope that a redshirt gets him where we all thought he would be by now, starting MLB (or at least a major contributor)! He has a ton of potential.
Assuming Lee moves inside and with Hull a competent backup, Colasanti would probably just seen special team work this fall.
