Would you accept this season result?
E-mail I just got from a friend concerning EA Sports NCAA10:
I just finished my first dynasty season (as Washington), and here was what Penn State did: -11-2 (6-2), lost by less than 10 to Illinois and Ohio State, finishing behind both in the final standings. -Beat Ole Miss 34-6 in the Citrus Bowl -Graham Zug won the Heisman (im not kidding) So, my question is: would you sign up for this right now?
So, would you?

I was a solid No until the Heisman thing.
I think for the complete bedlam that would produce, I might have to say Yes.
It makes me laugh.
If Zug was the Heisman trophy winner, it would mean PSU’s passing attack would be incredible, plus Zug would have to play special teams and return several for TD’s, probably strike a few poses. The media would also have to not blame it on a weak stable of Big Ten secondaries, which means the conference dominates in non-con play.
So how bad would PSU’s defense have to be to lose two games and play the Egg Bowl champion?
Impossible...
tWWL reported yesterday that Tim Tebow will be the first 2x winner since tOSU’s Archie Griffen. It’s a done deal.

well, yes.
It would require injuries or severely disappointing seasons by the triumvirate of McCoy, Tebow, and Bradford before anyone else could be considered.
That wouldn't matter
Even if Tebow is injured in Week One, he has still already won the honors, sharing them with Ron Pawlus. Pryor won rookie of the year already too. And the entire Notre Dame offensive line won Golden Gloves.

No
Even if we end up 11-2, I would not settle for above average going into the season. If that is how it ends up so be it.
Success without honor is an unseasoned dish; it will satisfy your hunger, but it won't taste good.
What are you going to do...
when Gharam Zug actually starts playing football games?

cheer at all his awesomeness?
23 TDs per game, even while not trying to run up the score is going to be hard to not cheer at

Yeah
Because that’s what is going to happen.

Commit suicide?
No, not really.
We’ve been over this before. When Zug does not produce according to his standards, the player you are seeing is not Zug. It is one of his evil relatives.

You know somethin'?
Sometime before the Rose Bowl, I made a Zug joke in a thread on here. Mintues later, some dude told me Zug jokes were old news.
Within several minutes, two other users chimed in, saying that Zug jokes would never get old.
It was this moment that told me the Zug cult would never be stopped unless Zug killed Daryll Clark.

And you have probably not
heard from “Mr Old News” since, have you. Makes ya think.

i believe that
Zug would never kill someone, he would simply no longer let them live
Because it's a Bowl Game!!

With this OOC
anything less than double didgit wins would be a disappointment. So while a loss to OSU would be difficult to accept, 10-2 would continue PSU’s return to the top.

Up until Zug
no. But to have Graham effing Zug win the Heisman would just be too awesome to let slip.

It is hard to say
the record isn’t that bad, but kinda under my personal over/under for the season (10.5). A Heisman winner would be a benefit to the program, however I prefer the team accomplishments more than the individual awards, and would prefer a BCS win.
2 loses in the Big Ten would be unacceptable
11-1…hopefully that lose is not to Iowa or Ohio State

anything but undefeated is unacceptable… until after the 1st loss… then anything but one loss is un acceptable… except after the 2nd loss… anything but 2 loses is unacceptable…. and so on…
I'd say that after the 4th loss
we really are entering unacceptable territory.

Unacceptable
Yeah, I always wonder what the heck people mean by saying “unacceptable” in this context. Does that mean if PSU goes 10-2 that you will stop watching the team? Will your burn any remaining tickets? Never buy PSU merchandise ever again? Put a hit out on JoePa? What?
I can seeing “dissappointing”, sure. but “unacceptable” is just some stupid meaningless term unless such a result will actually cause you to drastically change how you support the team.
but "unacceptable" gets a reaction...."dissappointing" does not...
unacceptable would be because you expect the team to do very well…dissappointing would be getting screwed out of 2 seconds in Michigan…again

Well, yeah, except for the bowl game

You've got the best attitude out of everybody.
Until we lose, undefeated is the goal. If we lose, then adjust goals accordingly. I’ve always, always been that way. The first loss of the year is the hardest to take, and the later in the year it comes, the worse it is. If we have quality and depth on both lines, I think we’ll do just fine this year.
Also, the only reason Zug won’t win the Heisman is if he doesn’t want to. If he wants it, it’s his. Just like my wife. My daughter. My bank account. My tickets. My parking spots. It’s Zug’s world. We’re just watching him travel through it.
27 DAYS 18 HOURS 48 MINUTES 53 SECONDS UNTIL KICKOFF!!!
Same results
I lost to both Illinois and OSU, and both on last minute drives. And I lost repeatedly. I’d quit, play the game over, and it still would not let me win.
Luring recruits with my new "Posting HD" scheme since '08.
I missed two long FG's
to seal the game, Illinois drove down the field, with 20 seconds left Juice fired a ball into the endzone, only to have Drew Astorino pick it off and take a touchback…and Penn State will hold on to win this game!
Disappointing...
…The Citrus Bowl is not what we are looking to play this year. Anything less than a BCS game (title game preferred) is disappointing.
It would be nice to whoop an SEC school, but I want to do it in a BCS game (and then again in Sept 2010 and 2011).
WE ARE.......PENN STATE!
Wow
Quite a conundrum, this. I’m gonna have to go with: No, I will not sign up for this. No sir, I will not sign up for a loss to the zookers. I think they’re gonna be this year’s Wisconsin. I’m looking for more Eddie McGee in the platoon and unmet expectations from Juice. That and an Oline that’s meh means all those talented receivers ain’t gonna see shite. And certainly not with our front 7 in their backfield.
Besides, Zug wouldn’t allow himself to win the Heisman with the stain of two losses on His team’s record. If they gave it to him, he’d just vaporize it and the whole thing would be largely unpalatable to all of us.

I agree
I realize the Zookers have two explosive players on offense, but can you really win with just those two playmakers? They had the same two guys last year and were mediocre. Granted we are in Champagne this year, but with our front 7, like you said, Juice is going to have trouble getting time to throw, even in a hostile environment.
I don't see
What condums have to do with any of this.

The Zug thing can't happen
If any body gives anyone other than Tebow a single first place Heisman vote, all the ESPN writers are going to form a lynch mob and come after the guilty party.
Whatever
As long as we don’t go back to the dark years I’m happy. Hell I wasn’t too horribly disappointed in 2006 after whooping Tennessee and watching Tony Hunt smash his way into the record books…
After last season I feel like we’re headed in the right direction, have recruited very well, and are ready for a legit NC run nearly every season after the next two for the forseeable future. My biggest fear is that Joe Paterno will not see another undefeated (even regular) season — when I want to see him with one more.
I don’t have very high expectations for 2009 or 2010 simply b/c we’re so thin at some key positions. If you want to be Florida or USC your 2nd string team should be capable of winning 10 games every season. Sure we could sneak into the NC game this season (like we almost did last year) but honestly, I don’t want to expect to sneak in to the NC game and lose like Ohio State has. I want us to moonwalk into the stadium and beat a team 48-0, and starting in 2011 I think we’ll have the talent and depth to do that.

undefeated seasons in 2009 and 2010.
That’ll make seven undefeated seasons in six different decades.
As long as he gets 2009
I hope he gets X more undefeated seasons, where X = the number of seasons left that he coaches. But as long as he gets 2009, he will have an undefeated team in every decade since he started. I didn’t actually do the research, but I would make a guess that no one else can say that (5 undefeated teams in 5 separate decades).
by Jeff Junstrom on Aug 10, 2009 6:33 PM EDT up reply actions
Technically
Since our calendar system started at 1, the decades should be counted as 1-10, 11-20 etc, and so if he gets one in 2010 it should count.. but unfortunately they’re not counted that way by the majority. But if he gets one in 2010, we can still claim it lol.
