A satisfying dump, some fun player quotes, and our Oline

These are so handy, thanks for dumping them. My favorites are the JoePa and player quotes. Here Stupar seems to not only be questioning the BSD & MSM deities Zug and Tebow, but even proffering a new one of his own:

Q: Talk about your interception. What was going through your mind?
A: That was a gift from above. That was all Jared Odrick.

And here it sounds like Sean Lee has swung through the wrestling room for a drop in on Cael Sanderson:

Q: Where do you think you are as a team after the first two games?
A: I think we’re a good team, but if we want to be a great team, we have a lot of work to do. We don’t want to be one of those teams with a few losses. We want to be perfect and to be perfect, we will have to get better.

It was nice he didn’t mention Newsome’s name on this answer:

Q: Were you disappointed that you didn’t get the shutout?
A: Yeah, we wanted a goose egg, but that’s part of the game. I thought we fought hard and played well for the most part, but we just need to get a little more consistent.

Moye is understandably understated here:

Q: Last game you really stepped up as the go-to guy and this game it was maybe Graham [Zug]. What does that say about the receivers?
A: I think we have a few guys who can step up any game. I think I showed it last week and Graham showed it this week.
, but I’m gonna go ahead and say it for him: this year’s receivers are more dangerous than last year’s. It’s clear the Oline has won the offseason battle over which to more concerned about. I’m bummed for my boy Lou, who, it appears, just may not be athletic enough to play guard for us. I’m still holding out hope it’s not ‘just may not be bright enough to play guard for us’ and that some of his monumental blocking whiffs are still just the result of inexperience and, as such, can be corrected. But it’s also clear the coaches are wondering the same thing. There was an earlier parade of experiments along the line yesterday than there was last week and they got longer looks at Quinn Barham and again at Troutman, to see if they can still upgrade from Stank and Lou. Man, I hope that comes together soon.

WRs

I said the same thing during the 3rd quarter. I hate to say anything that could be perceived as a put down to the Trio of Destiny, but I think we have more athleticism his year and, at least so far, a group more consistent with their hands. Very few drops and what seems like more yards after the catch, although that’s just a non-factual impression and might not actually be the case.

i wouldn't necessary say athleticism

maybe it’s the simplest answer…different build. new receiver set is taller. i can recall, though not the exact situation, where passes completed simply because zug or moye just went OVER the CB.

then again…i may totally be missing something

Drive Chart

is here. And the Play by Play chart is here.

Both are pretty cool to skim. In addition to having watched (and even rewatched) the game, they indicate the coaches are confident in the passing game, but not with the old ethic of ‘run it til they stop us.’ It’s clear, from these charts and from Joe’s postgame words, that they know they are far from a complete team, a team striving to, as Sean Lee, says be perfect. So they’re ‘stubbornness’ takes another form: forcing the run. They started rotating guards in and out as early as the third quarter, and even earlier, during their 1stquarter 17 play 95 yard, 9min march to goose egg that they were extremely focused on balancing in runs. Did anybody see #75 come in at guard this week?

Royster's

reception for 49 yesterday was the longest play he’s ever made. Weird to think about right? As huge as he’s been it’s strange to think that’s the longest. His previous long was a run of 44.

JoePa Quote

My fav quote was by the headman himself when asked a question by the tv gal at the end of the first half: “How do we get better on 3rd down? Heh. We play better!”
Gotta love it!

That and her follow up question

Q: You spoke earlier in the week about being more consistent. How do you get that consistency in the second half?

A: We have to be more consistent.

PWNED!

Maybe I am the only one that is reading into this but...

Does JoePa say Bowman is going to play in the middle? Does that mean he will take Hall’s spot?

Is Navorro Bowman getting any closer health-wise to playing?

Paterno: He says he’s feeling better, I don’t know if he’ll be better for the [Temple] game. I think it’ll be close. If he’s not 100 percent I don’t think it’s fair to stick him in there. Where he plays in the middle, there’s an awful lot of people coming I think when he feels good and the doctor says he’s OK we can put him in a couple good days of practice to test it and go from there. Right now, he couldn’t have played today.

Could he have meant the vertical middle of the field?

Just a thought…

Intrigued me too

haven’t heard anything to indicate an answer and harvey’s is as good as any.

Maybe the 3-4?

Where they put Lee and Bowman in the middle with Hayes and Stupar on the outside?
