Come To Penn Staaaaaate!: C.J. Olaniyan

Whoo_siren_medium

Gimme a badly-needed defensive end and a wooooooo.

We don't want to bump CarolinaEasy's analysis too far down the page, so we'll make this short and sweet.  Details are sketchy at this juncture, but BWI is reporting that Penn State bagged Michigan defensive end C.J. Olaniyan today.  Here's his Scouts Inc. profile from ESPN.  Yay.

FTW

Couples Retreat – http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1078940/ – coming soon

Directed by Ralphie from A Christmas Story, written by Favreau and Vaughn (all three are BFFs), with Vaughn, Favreau, Bateman, Bell, the hot chick from sex and the city. This has SERIOUS promise written all over it.

There's something about actresses...

that play really smart characters that I find hot.

Kristen Bell in Veronica Mars. Vera Farmiga in Touching Evil.

I don’t know what that says about me.

If only Norwood could get a fair shake,

this class could be at or over a 4.0 star average. Not that I care about the stars, but sometimes its nice when the hot girls recognize you.

by Jeff Junstrom on Sep 17, 2009 2:14 PM EDT reply actions

Norwood's shake is fair

He didn’t play last year. He’s a 3* on Scout, which surprised me. I thought they would wait it out. He did look good at the PSU camp and his first game was good but outside that there’s not much on him.

True

But what I guess I meant by fair is a season’s worth of review. I’m confident that once this class is wrapped up and the stars are all assigned, we will be damn close toa 4.0 average. Is that even allowed for PSU?

by Jeff Junstrom on Sep 17, 2009 2:47 PM EDT up reply actions

Oh yeah

I’m interested to see how it plays out.

Personally, I'm glad to see another Norwood on the team

regardless of star ratings. He comes from a good family, and grew up a Penn Stater at heart, which is always a good thing. I’m excited to see him the next few years. If his hands are half as good as Jordan’s, we’ve got a hell of a steal with him.

I said this after Zwinak, but we still need 1 more this week - we've been pulling groups of 3.

That being said, Fortt is near, Havenstein is near, and Easley visits this weekend.

Picks?

I’m going with all three, especially cuz I’m sick of Lattimore’s bullshit.

I get the feeling from what I've read

Floyd is starting to come back to the light side.

by psume06 on Sep 17, 2009 3:03 PM EDT up reply actions

I've heard that too

Supposedly Urban Meyer got in his ear when we had a few DUI’s this summer and convinced him and his mom that PSU players are trouble. But I’m hearing that LJSR fixed that perception right quick.

by BSD on Sep 17, 2009 3:46 PM EDT up reply actions

LJ Sr. is a monster plain and simple.

The article In We Are Penn State was one of my favorites in the whole magazine. I had really wondered how this guy was such a recruiting monster. Was he doing something under the table? Holding family members hostage? Bribes? (j/k of course)
But I loved how he does it the right way (even if we have had more than a few of his recruits become problems): by inspiring future players to come to PENN SCHTAAAATE. He doesn’t go for the Urban Meyer/Kiffin trash talk of other schools (which I guess is what the PSU program is like regardless). But I came out of reading that article with a immense respect for LJ Sr.

by dawsonPSU10 on Sep 17, 2009 5:53 PM EDT up reply actions

I love LJ

Despite his Dline recruits having questionable legal records while at PSU. Zach’s recent commitment has brought me much joy at the office. I have a lot of fun apologizing to the Tech folks who thought they had that kid locked up.

Was Jenkins a typo or a joke?

You said Fortt below, and I believe you meant Fortt instead of Jenkins. But Jenkins was the kid that went GO GATOR last year.

by dawsonPSU10 on Sep 17, 2009 5:54 PM EDT up reply actions

It was a joke

I said Floyd and Jenkins, as Jenkins went the way of the Gator, and Floyd is being lured as well. Then I settled on Fortt, who is realistically the best chance of the options given.

Momentum breeds momentum

I think Joe has to shorten those annual vacations to Avalon with the Jay and the grandkids. Every year it seems like we go into the summer like gangbusters and then lose momentum with a lot of kids in July and August as other coaches negative recruit against us. Every September we read about recruits and even commits that waver and say they haven’t heard from Penn State in weeks. Then we pick back up again once we get into September and get a bunch of commits.

Wow, two kids in the same week that I really didn't expect to come here

I’m glad we got a legitimate DE now, we needed it badly. (and by legitimate I mean Baublitz and Royer most likely will be DEs, but nothings official with them yet since Blitzkreig is a TE on Rivals, and Royer is still listed as a OLB on Scout, no offense to them, because they’re also going to be great players).

by dawsonPSU10 on Sep 17, 2009 6:09 PM EDT reply actions

Zwinak had narrowed it down to us and VT, and I mean… Really, VT? Think how many legacies we’ve taken this year, and VT is kinda not ever better than okay.

Olaniyan was a surprise.

Which leads me to believe we’re getting Havenstein too. And, obviously, Fortt and Easley.

by psume06 on Sep 17, 2009 11:30 PM EDT up reply actions

Zwinak was a surprise for me

simply because he was a VT legacy, and he was quoted as saying he wanted to play RB in college, and I’m sure we wanted him as a FB only since we’re loaded with RBs right now.

I still don’t know about Havenstein. I just don’t know much about him than the fact that he said he said that he likes us.

I’m still optimistically confident about us landing Fortt, despite the UG visit (which he didn’t announce his decision right afterward like he said he was). I think him visiting us a bunch of times, especially accompanied by Redd (who I think waxman said was with Redd when he was stalking them for pics at Arts Fest).

And since Florida must have been really douchey to Easley and pissed him off, so we might have a good shot with him at a position we desperately need skill at.

by dawsonPSU10 on Sep 18, 2009 12:17 AM EDT up reply actions

Though we still don't have a db???

I hope they’re not going to make Redd play there.

by psume06 on Sep 18, 2009 8:54 AM EDT reply actions

No need in this class

We took 7 db’s in the last class. Lynn is looking like a solid starter for the next two years. Astorino and Sukay have two years left. Hodges looks like an animal, and supposedly Morris and Thomas are tearing it up in practice. Morris is listed as the #2 backup behind Lynn.

We’re stacked with lots of young talent in the secondary. They might take one CB and that’s it.
