This week in Rankings
http://espn.go.com/college-football/rankings
This week, Penn State is #5 in the AP and #4 in the USAToday/tWWL Coaches Poll.
Next highest Big Ten team is OSU at 13 in the AP, 11 in the USAToday. The 3rd and last Big Ten team is MIchigan at 23 in the AP, 22 in the USAToday.
USC dropped to 12 in the AP, 10 in the USA Today, the U is now ranked at 9(WTF!!!) in the AP, 13 in the USA Today. Boise State is the only BCS buster left in the Top 10 (next closest is TCU).
Anyway, where would YOU rank PSU this week?

#8 or #9
still say we’re too high. Cal and Miami, I think, have proven better. Still say we’re better than Ole Missy, maybe on par with LSU, Boise State.
My opinion.
+1
- is too high for this team, but I’ll take it.

Liked how Rece Davis
emphasized that “this is not the USC juggernauts of past seasons”.
O RLY? Then why the ##### were they ranked #3 then? Why was Mark May rinsing Trojan essence out of his mouth!!???

i have thought we have been ranked too high all season
i wanted to reserve judgement until the Iowa game.
i’m ok that Ole Miss is ranked higher on the AP side…they blewout their last game in comparison to us.
We Are...
Mississippi is only one point higher, so we might as well be tied for 4th.
The only undefeated teams that have beat better teams than us are Miami of FL, Cal, Alabama, and maybe Boise State. Fourth and a close fifth works for me.
Also, Mississippi blew out a I-AA school, so I’m still unimpressed.
Well, we may be ranked too high
But in no way would I prefer being ranked lower. That is dumb. Regardless of what anyone says, we want a MNC. It may have no actual meaning, but we would love to see it. For that to happen, you have to be 1 or 2.

but at this stage of the season
it doesn’t really matter where we are ranked. it’s just an excuse for the media to have a way to promote “big time” games.
We decide when you hear the snap count...
You are right, it may not ultimately matter
But why would you wanna risk it?

I agree
we want to be as high as possible. For example if Texas Bama and PSU finished out last season undefeated we would have been left out.
Luckily only one of Bama Ole Miss and FL can finish undefeated this season.

but thats the problem
the media still thinks that is a more impressive record (SEC 1 loss) compared to if we went undefeated (knock on wood)

It's not dumb
I don’t care about a MNC nearly as much as I care about winning a bowl game. The M is there for a reason.
We’re not the #1 or #2 team in the country this year, and I’ll gladly trade the slim chance of beating whatever other team would be in the BCSCG for a shot at a more appropriate opponent.

I don’t care about an MNC either….it doesn’t mean squat! We bust on it when other teams win it (adding the “M”) why would it be anything but if PSU won it!
I want to win the Big Ten and the bowl game…if it causes us to be the Mythical champions, then yay…I’ll buy the T-shirt.
While at this stage in the season
I would agree that we’re not the #1 or #2 team, and I of course would want PSU to win a bowl game, but if I had to choose a bowl to be in I’d rather it be the BCS Championship game in Pasadena. I think we would match up well with probably any team not named Florida, and even Florida I could see us beating (though we’d probably be pretty a big underdog). Still, though, I don’t like the whole “I’d rather play an inferior team in a bowl game so we can get a win” since if that’s the case, then what does that win really mean anyway?
It would be slightly different if we were an 8-4 team, in which case I’d think it is pointless to go to a game that we’d get slaughtered in, but this is looking to be a pretty good team this year (as was the team last year), and as I said, I think we have a decent chance to pull out a win against any other team out there.
And the good thing about the MNC game this year is that we likely won’t be playing another “home” team (unless our opponent winds up being Cal, but even then, Hippytown is still pretty far from Pasadena).

Inferior to the NC teams, maybe
But not inferior to us. Appropriate, not inferior. I don’t think we’d have a chance in hell against Florida.
