Come To Penn Staaaaaate! - Dominique Easley
Gimme a four-star defensive end and a siren WHOOOOOO!!!
Well this is a good way to start a Monday. Penn State has landed a verbal commitment from four-star defensive end Dominique Easley of Staten Island.
"I always liked Penn State," said Easley, who gave the coaching staff his commitment on Saturday after watching the fifth-ranked Nittany Lions defeat Temple, 31-6, on a campus visit. "I didn’t think I was going to commit, but being out there and talking to everybody made me feel like this was the place."
Easley becomes Penn State's 18th verbal commitment in their star-studded recruiting class for 2010. He is labeled a four-star prospect by both Rivals and Scout. Both services rank him the top prospect in the state of New York. Name a big program, and chances are Easley had an offer from them. Michigan, Boston College, Miami, Florida, Georgia, Oregon, Tennessee, Rutgers, and Syracuse just to name a few.
Easley recorded 51 tackles and 10 sacks as a junior. Three games into his senior year he already has 25 tackles and 5 sacks.

Holy Nittany Lions...... Batman!!
Do you know how good our defense will be in 2-3 years?? Of course, the O is looking pretty good also!!

Don't get too excited
This is almost how our class looked in 2006, as well. Rivals gave us 1 5*, 14 4* and 8 3*. Right now, we have 13 4*, 4 3* and a Levi Norwood.

That does make me excited
I think we are a pretty good team today because of recruiting classes like that.

All we need is the players to actually stick around this time
and not get in trouble and we will see this class have a big impact in the future.

Exactly
And recruiting classes like that get you to 11-1 and a trip to the Rose Bowl. I say bring it on!

momentum
wow, this is quite the momentum going in. We are still targeting Lattimore, Floyd, and Fortt. I’m pretty sure there’s a chance with Kolb as well. What a class this could be.
But seriously, don’t be surprised if we lose one or two kids along the way. I have my doubts that we’ll sign this entire class — it’s just too easy to snipe kids from a class like this.

Winning would be our best
argument against that happening.

I can see Jones or Coxson, which stinks because they were #1 and #3 in our class.
But I don’t think it’ll happen. If we have 10+ wins (which I translate into a BCS game), I don’t imagine we’d lose any.

when our recruiting weekness this year looked like it was gonna be DE? Yeah….

This class is barely a top five class, and our average star rating is barely the best ahead of florida and usc

this is another thing that pisses me off about college recruiting rankings
Since we don’t have as many scholarships to hand out as some other teams, even though we’re filling our needs perfectly, and even though our average ranking is better than everyone else, we’re ranked 6th right now according to scout because we don’t have as many “points” since we have fewer commits (though we are practically full up).

I don't think we're quite full.
I forget where I got these numbers, but I think Mike counted 18, and somehow we cleared 3 up (can’t recall how). That should leave us 21, and I anticipate Levi getting a grayshirt if we need him to to pull Stills or Lattimore.

Actually
Scout now has us as the #4 class with 18 commits.
1 Oklahoma 23 4017
2 Texas 19 3805
3 Tennessee 21 3697
4 Penn State 18 3681
5 Alabama 21 3672
6 LSU 22 3538
7 Georgia 18 3442
8 Stanford 23 3099
9 Florida 15 3021
10 Ok State 23 2977
What really speaks volumes about this class though is that we’re tied for second fewest commits in the top ten and still #4 (tied with Georgia at 18, Florida has 15)

Ah, the power of Penn State Football on a beautiful late summer day.
Three games into his senior year he already has 25 tackles and 5 sacks.
That is studly. And I’m sure it’s not like teams aren’t aware of this kid.

So we have to be about done with scholies....
So either we are A – going to keep going after kids and worry about the details later, or B – we know we are going to lose some kids that are currently on the roster or committed…

We're close, but not out of schollies
With the couple of players leaving who weren’t seniors, we added a few more onto the 17-18 estimate we had at the beginning of the summer.

Which underclassmen are most likely to leave early?
Call me selfish but I’m kind of glad that Bowman was out for the OC games. We didn’t need him to win and it can’t be helping his draft status. Same thing for Royster’s less than stellar first two games. If we keep both for next year, it’ll help out transitioning to the Newsome era tremendously. BUT at the same time, I DO want to wish the best for these kids and if they’re ready for the next level they should leave.
GAH, I’m so torn!!!

Eh he did the same thing last year and was still the best player
If he has another year like last year he’s gone. We’ll see though. There is a long way to go.

My thinking
I think Royster will be back. Running backs are a dime a dozen in the NFL draft. As more and more teams go to a two or three man platoon, the running back position becomes less and less critical. Teams seem to do just fine plugging in a fifth year veteran or going with a third round draft pick. Unless you are an absolute stud like Reggie Bush was, teams don’t want to waste a first round pick on a running back. So Royster will be back.
If Bowman comes back 100% and dominates these last nine games he’ll be gone. The NFL will recognize talent.
I’m starting to get a little worried about Ogbu. He is playing really well these first three games.

Ogbu leaving
would be a disaster of colossal proportions. We’ll really need his skill to anchor the D-line next year.

i can't see royster jumping early
i don’t have any evidence or proof to back this up. i’ve just had this feeling since i first saw him play in 2007 that he is penn state guy til his eligibility is up.
feel free to give evidence against this though…

I think Devon Still has looked great as a part of the DT rotation. Certainly a pleasant surprise & depth for the future.

Just a thought -
One more commit, even if it comes from a 3-star, will bump us to Scout’s #2 class. Should Fortt and, say, Floyd or Havenstein, choose to commit… We’ll be their #1.

Is there a recruiting visitation schedule somewhere?
Who will be at the Iowa game? When are others making visits?

Haven't seen this on any of our recruiting comments....
but Scout says we have an offer to a JC guy, James Carmon. He’s doing an official visit to OSU game with Lattimore and Sills. He’s an OT at, get this, 6’7", 370#. He went to HS in Baltimore (sound familiar) but is in JC in Mississippi.
