Dining in Cambria County(Ebensburg) PA
My wife and I are staying at a B&B in Ebensburg over the Iowa weekend and I've never been to Cambria County. We're looking to have a nice dinner for our anniversary Friday night. For those who are familiar with the area, is there a restaurant that you can recommend? I'm not looking for something that's going to run us $75 a plate and not fill me up but I want a good meal in a nice atmosphere. Thanks in advance for the responses!

according to...
the Cambria County homepage…they are having a potato festival this weekend!!!
So you got that going for you, which is nice.
I pulled up Edensburg Restaurants in Google
and found KFC, Wendys, McDonalds, Burger King, and Pizza Hut. Help!
Edensburg?
Are you sure you don’t mean Ebensburg? Google can’t seem to find Edensburg and I know from growing up in Westmoreland county (Seward to be exact, right on the Cambria, Westmoreland and Indiana borders) that Ebensburg is in Cambria County.
Hold up a sec
Apparently several businesses in Ebensburg list ‘Edensburg’ as part of their name…
Rec's
If it’s Ebensburg you’re in, I highly recommend The Cottage. It’s a restaurant/inn combo and has some great food at more than reasonable prices.
If Italian is your thing, Donatello’s is supposed to be pretty good as well, but is definitely more costly than the cottage.
Are you framiliar with Breezewood?
It’s on the turnpike, about equidistant between Pittsburgh and Phiily. It’s nothing but fast food restaurants and hotels.
Ebensburg is pretty much that, but between Pittsburgh and State College. So, good luck. Or try Altoona.
Where’s the Beer and the Bar-b-Que?
Cambria County?
Isn’t your best bet just to drag a dead deer off the road and start a fire?

I'm starting to think that might be the case
I’m not saying I’m tied to the town. Anything in the area would be great!
Seriously
Might as well stay in Juniata or Potter or Elk.

Drive into nearby Portage, which is 4 miles away and eat at the Sassy Sisters resturant.
Great food, great prices, and a family owned and operated establishment. Then on your way out of town stop by the Olde Keg bar for a great hometown atmosphere for some good brews.

I've been to the Olde Keg
I ordered a round of shots for eight people, and I think it was $10. I think they got five 12 ounce rum and cokes out of a 12 ounce can of coke.
That place is trouble.
Where’s the Beer and the Bar-b-Que?
I like everything they have on tap
It has a great variety for a little town bar…plus it has a lot of character.
I will be there Friday night. If any BSDers are going to be in the area, flying in for the weekend

$75 a plate in Ebensburg.
That made me laugh. It’s a fair question and concern to keep costs low, but I don’t believe you could spent $75 on a meal in Ebensburg if you tried.
Glad to hear there is stll
a place in the world where I can go out on what I can dig out of the couch cushions.

Off the Rak is good.
I’m actually from Portage, and I prefer Off the Rak/Yesterday’s Party over Sassy Sister’s/Olde Keg in the restaurant/bar match up.

Off the Rak
Off the Rack is the only thing close to a good restaurant in E’burg. YP is a good bar in the same area as Off the Rack.
The Old Keg is a Pitt bar first and an OSU bar second….Don’t let that stop you….it is a great little bar….fun drive too….
For Pizza go for Best Way, a small local by the slice chain and the Meadows for Icecream after.
Doesn't the Olde Kegg have plenty of PSU stuff?
I seem to remember the cut out Joe, and some pics of the White Out, And I really don’t remember seeing a whole lot of Panthers stuff there, more Stillers.

Take her to City View in Johnstown
Since it is your anniversary, I would definitely recommend taking a short 20 min. drive to City View Bar & Grill in Johnstown. It is at the top of the Inclined Plane and has a great view of (what is left of) the city of Johnstown. The prices are reasonable and the food is great. Here’s the website and menu:

If you do want to stay strictly in Ebensburg, then your best bet is Off the Rak. They have a nice dining area plus a bar area that has been recently revamped to have sort-of a sports bar atmosphere. The prices are a little cheaper than City View but the food is still pretty good, although I do feel it is a little bit of a step down from City View.
STAY AWAY from anything in Portage.

City View website link
For some reason, the website that I posted won’t go to the menu. There are plenty of reviews for the restaurant out there for more info. I would recommend reservations as well. What B&B are you staying at?

Thanks for the advice everyone!
I got a little nervous based on the initial responses and lack of options on the internet. I was away from the internet lastnight and one of my friends recommended Gamble Mill Tavern in Bellefonte so I booked it. I figure we’ll just hang out in SC Friday night.
