Icers broadcast, if you're really that bored
The actual link to listen is towards the top right, titled "Icers Webcast". Apparently SBN doesn't like download/playlist links.
Of course, I'll be listening and using this as a bit of an open thread. Any major changes or news, I'll be sure to add to an actual post. Otherwise, it's just the Blue-White game, so while I'll get an idea of who's who and how they play, it's really a lot of fluff.

From Coach Balboni
- Dave Herel (Sr.) is moving from forward to defense. With so much of the defense leaving, he felt it was the best chance to get more playing time and be an asset to the team. I’m excited to see him get playing time either way.
- Steve Thurston (Sr.) is actually a 5th year senior – something that slipped my mind during the preview. He had a medical redshirt year his junior year, giving him this chance to return and being a huge “addition” to the team. He’s also attending grad school. (I think the last 5th year senior we had was Eric Harbaugh.)
- Frosh goalie Dan Ivanir is apparently like a Chris Matteo clone (one of the top goalies in Penn State history). Which is very good, but also means there’s a good chance of heart attacks for when he seems to be out of position.

It's also one of the biggest teams in Icers history
if not the biggest. There may be a lot of penalties this season…

Ok, Timmy O'Brien scores 8 seconds in on Teddy Hume
I’d worry about this, but apparently OB does this regularly in practice, so it’s just another scrimmage for those two.

Brian Dolan
Frosh defenseman – only walk-on to make the team. With the depth of our recruiting anymore, this is a real rarity. So kudos to him!

Ryan Erbe - big hitter
apparently had a big one in tryouts, and just had another big one on Dan Petrick. It’ll be nice to have a slew of physical defensemen again.

Dustin Roux = Junior (not Soph as my preview indicated)
Sounds like all but one of the new guys played Junior hockey somewhere. So they’re freshmen, but not really freshmen…
"In the beginning the Universe was created.
This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move."
Roux = pronounced like Rucks?
"In the beginning the Universe was created.

scratch that
Roux = Roo (as I had expected)
they were talking about Dan Loucks ( = Lucks).

Sounds like a goal for the white team
Eric Steinour gets a goal, puts the white team up 2-0

don't worry - I got it covered

"In the beginning the Universe was created.

Sounds like a good crowd
Usually it’s fairly dead, but the football crowd has humored us nicely. :)

Dustin Roux with a shorthanded goal
gives the blue team their first goal. Held off the bigger Steve Thurston, put a backhander past John Jay. Apparently that roller hockey stuff wasn’t just regular crap.
Oh yeah – there was a slashing call in there somewhere, thus the shorthanded goal.
6:42 left in the first half. Blue-White game is made of 2 25-minute halves.

Matt Kirstein not playing - doing commentary for this first half
Good commentator. He’s also connected to the Homecomming stuff. I dunno – I wasn’t really listening to that part.
"In the beginning the Universe was created.
This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move."
D2 Ice Lion Chris Pusch (?)
gets a goal, with some nice passing with Mike Luongo – gives White a 3-1 lead.
Pusch was one of the last cuts, so if injuries/flu hurt us, it sounds like we’ve got a good group to pick from.

Solid first half
Some good beating and banging. Some good chances. Defense needs a little bit of cleaning up, but decent otherwise. John Jay has looked solid, Teddy looks shaky.
Sounds like a lot of line changes during practice – trying to get everyone comfortable playing with anyone else.
(And yes, Kirstein is in the running for Homecoming King.)

That’s what she said.

Hey, the commentator (Steve Penstone) expected a lot of
“body on body” action, to go along with all that “beating and banging”. So yeah, there’s that.

ACHA Commish Brian Moran is apparently at the Ice Pavilion
Yeah… I’ve never been a fan of his…

Why?
/curious, knows nothing of college hockey

well, he hasn't put the ACHA under
but he’s put in a lot of stupid rules/fines (for the scorekeepers), added some very crappy websites/procedures that don’t always work properly, and hasn’t always been the most accommodating to the schools’ media peoples.
It just seems at times he’s very closed-minded and doesn’t make sure that things are working properly before putting new processes in place.

Injuries and flu apparently swinging through the team
a few guys aren’t playing tonight because of one or the other.
"In the beginning the Universe was created.

Paul Daley = H1N1 victim
I think Matty K is fighting an injury – not major, but no reason to risk further injury during a glorified scrimmage.

Dan Ivanir replacing John Jay in goal

And gets tested very early
Made all the saves.

There's apparently some roster shifts going on
and play on the ice, but the announcers have sorta moved away from the action.
"In the beginning the Universe was created.
This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move."
Joe Zitarelli puts a quick one past Ivanir
Dustin Roux with an assist – me thinks that name might become a regular over the season.
"In the beginning the Universe was created.
This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move."
Eric Steinour gets a goal
puts it past Teddy Hume, puts white back up 4-2.
"In the beginning the Universe was created.

Lady Icers coach Mo Strummel on the radio
Doing a little talking about the ladies team – sounds like they did some heavy recruiting and should be able to field a full team every game. Hopefully good things are on the way for them as well.
"In the beginning the Universe was created.
This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move."
proper name spelling
it’s Stroemel, not Strummel. Buy his CD or something…
"In the beginning the Universe was created.

While I'm plugging links here
Here’s the Lady Icers website. Go, support, cheer on. Honestly, I don’t care about Title IX – I’d just like to see them become competitive and make the jump to the NCAA with the Icers.
"In the beginning the Universe was created.
This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move."
Teddy Hume
goes back and forth – looks good and is in proper position at times. Out of position and playing soft at other times.
And as I say this, Steinour gets his second goal – whites up 5-2. Played for the Boston Bulldogs last year.
"In the beginning the Universe was created.
This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move."
Chris Pronchik gets on the board for the white team
makes it 6-2. Look to hear his name more this season – returning junior forward, who’s a smaller guy, but is very fast and can play bigger than his size.
"In the beginning the Universe was created.
This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move."
Dominic Morrone with a few shots
looks solid offensively. Dan Ivanir continuing to make saves.
"In the beginning the Universe was created.
This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move."
Well, that's the exhibition
Aryans White team wins it, 6-2. Dustin Roux and Eric Steinour look like two very solid additions to the line-up. From the vets that played, I don’t have anything bad to say, just a high likelihood that their names will likely be showing up in the boxscore more.
Teddy Hume still seems shaky to me. Would not be surprised if John Jay takes a lot of starts throughout the season.
"In the beginning the Universe was created.
This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move."
Typical
Whitey always wins.

Balboni still focusing on defensive zone and forechecking
Not happy with D-Zone breakdowns tonight, especially in front of Teddy Hume. Didn’t think Teddy played well either, tho (Teddy wasn’t happy with his performance either).
Asst. Coach Billy Downey in Iowa for the Buc Bowl for recruiting. Trying to focus on top-line recruits this season.

Rambler
I think IcersGuy may have just beaten you for most posts ever in one fanshot/fanpost. And if not, it’s gotta at least be some sort of percentage record.
It might be close on percentage
I’ve got just under 90% of this posting. It rivals my 44/50 performance during the ACHA tourney this past March. Notice a pattern? Yeah, me either…
In sheer numbers however – Rambler’s got me by no contest. If memory serves me correctly (and it rarely does), Rambler hit epic status with a basketball open thread of sorts with a reign of kittens. (And probably Hightower). He is the legend. Me – I’m merely mortal.
