Penn St you played tough
Not trying to be an asshole but I posted this on another thread here last night about 3 in the morning when I couldn’t sleep. I wanted to post Ferentz and the player I thought would be the difference maker. I guessed correct this time:

I don't know...
because Clark was throwing into the dirt on a lot of those short throws.
I seriously think he did this to himself. Put too much pressure on himself.

He's a great athlete and a very good QB but...
way too emotional. Almost like McNabb the way he can’t just let things go.
Remember when we lost at UM in ’05. MRob was all piss and vinegar, forgot about the loss and blew out Illinois.

Well we'll see what kind of heart we have.
We may blow Illinois out and be on our way…or this may be a long season.
Truthfully, this is an average team right now. However, it’s good enough to win 9-10 games… if Lee and Bowman play the rest of the way and the O-Line just improves every week.

This reminds me of the Boston College game up in Chestnut Hill a few years ago.
The defense was great, the offense struggled in the weather, and the special teams was a disaster.

Flat
Flat and lifeless. That’s the only way I can describe the entire team on both sides of the ball. We came out gunslinging on offense, and once we got up by 10, it was right back into turtle mode on offense and cover 3 and 15 yard cushions on the receivers. I’m so sick of seeing this shit.

I disagree about the offense
We were still trying to pass out of 5-wide sets in the second half.

Turtle Mode
Refers more to mindset than playcalling. We went up by 10, and for whatever reason, the fight left the offense. The O-line was content with being shoved around, Clark was throwing high, the receivers were either dropping the high-but-catchable passes or tipping them up for Iowa to pluck. And when these things would happen, heads would hang low, shoulders would slouch. There was no fire, no passion. They looked like they were beaten. Which is precisely why I shut my cellphone off at halftime when the game was still 10-5. I knew we were going to lose.

I knew we were finished as soon as Wagner missed that FG. That was killer.

Well, 06Lion,
It is a lack of killer instinct against a mediocre team. They had a great D, but they still shouldn’t have won that game.
Iowa mediocre on offense?
I’m sorry, maybe I’m crazy, but I swear I saw Iowa’s offensive line pushing us around at points. And I thought Stanzi looked allright. Basically did the job Ferentz expects of him.
Calling Iowa medicore is not only false, but it’s belittling.

Iowa was NOT mediocre
They were outstanding on D and adequate on O. They are far above mediocre

Iowa's O
was great for most of the game at preventing us from getting pressure. They had quite a few dropped passes partially due to some poor throwing from Stanzi, but if they get that together they’ll be good on O as well.

I think you will all feel better about this loss
after a few more Iowa wins. If you saw the Arizona game, you saw his coming. Instead, everyone focused on UNI. Well, they’re good. Their QB is better than Clark and Stanzi. He will be in the NFL and thei O-line is better than yours.
Also, lining up three patsy teams was not smart.

nobody asked the AD to do that.
It led to the most awkward scheduling of a season I’ve ever experienced.
It felt like the season opener tonight. The others were comparable to NFL preseason games where you knew nothing and felt like you were wasting your time.

Absolutely disgraceful game. Putrid. Awful. I did not think we were great before this game. did not think we were actually dog shit.
Just a depressing, lifeless performance. From Clark to the last row of the stadium.

I tried to use my dad’s computer because I’m staying at their place tonight, but he apparently runs windows 76 on a laptop infested with spyware. So I only have the iPhone. Makes things hard. My brain is ready to explode with raw fucking fury, but it’ll have to wait for tomorrow.
The lions are who we they thought they were, to use Denny green’s wisdom. A highly overrated, paper thin team that apparently has glass balls. Iowa was tougher, smarter, and outcoached us again. Big fucking shocker.
So, yeah. Angry. Angerer, even.

White-out intimidation
The white out t-shirts about being “intimidated” proved ineffective. Obviously the white-out and the white -out intimidation didn’t intimidate Iowa. Unfortunately, the national television audience got to see just how bogus it is. I’d want a refund after tonight’s show.
We only do it now so Musburger can wax poetic about it.

As a closing comment
On behalf of the mods (oh yeah – I’m totally abusing this power that I don’t have), I want to thank everyone for coming out and filling out all of the open threads today. Good, clean fun was had, but sadly the good guys couldn’t come up with the victory today.
There will be much armchair analysis (from myself included), but at the end of the day, it’s time to buck up and prepare for a trip to Illinois in just 7 short days.
Oh, and this totally would have been the perfect time for another episode of Mike’s drunken rant that he posts to BSD. (I need to work on shortening that…)
"In the beginning the Universe was created.
This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move."
Congrats Iowa
Iowa was the better team and took it to PSU. Look, this PSU team is not a juggernaut, though band wagoners were predicting such here in the summer. The play calling was dull and the o-line was poor. Clark made terrible decisions. You don’t overcome this many mistakes without a juggernaut team.
This is what Iowa did: dominate the line of scrimmage and capitalize on mistakes. That is what a very good team does.
I hope the kids here learn from this. You don’t predict 12-0 based on 10 returning starters. This team may bounce back and have a very good season. But the USC/Florida-style arrogance shown by a few idiots has already made the PSU fan base look bad. Thanks guys for putting the cart before the horse. For living adjacent to Amish country, everyone should know better!
