Benn Likely Back This Saturday
The wheels fell off without him, although that doesn't explain how awful their defense was.

I mean, I don't discount the possibillity (being our first road game and all)...
…But, that defense…gawd, that defense.

I'm with you on the improved optimism about this game
With the also improved optimism about the receivers, this is looking like less and less of a loss provided that defense continue to epically suck. I mean, you’re a Big Ten team, to have a defense that bad is a crime, especially when you can’t get pressure on a Nintendo 12 offense who lost their starting WR and QB.
This is Illinois
They’ll look like garbage one game, then play like a world beater the next. The odds of bad Illinois showing up look pretty likely. But it makes me worry that PSU might underestimate the danger posed by good Illinois, especially on the road playing more conservatively. A loss to good Illinois looks the same as a loss to bad Illinois in the media’s eyes. So I’m still concerned the Illini offense will have a good day while the defense plays its usual suspect role. That means a close high scoring game.
Anyone
Ever think we were gonna lose to them?
"For me the game wasn’t grounded in reality. It was about the uniform you put on that turned you into a warrior. It was about the mythology of the battle, the victory, the defeat, the struggle." - Mike Reid, PSU '69
