What Stadiums Have You Seen CFB In?
Jeff Nelson launched some funny banter in the twittersphere this week when he noted that tomorrow JoePa will be leading Penn State into the 65th stadium he has coached in. Next month, he'll add 66 at FedEx Field in Raljohn, MD. Dan Wetzel and Barking Carnival picked it up with: 'his first was what, the Colosseum?' and 'Dude OWNS the Flavian ampitheatre!'
I know Juggernitt has been around to a bunch of stadiums, something very much on my bucket list as long as the sport of football continues to exist. Where do you all stack up with JoePa? There's enough baseball shite interrupting football season right now as it is, so let's keep it to what stadiums have you seen college football in. Go ahead and throw in DII or III if that's how you get your game on.

5. Memorial Stadium – Nebraska
6. Dolphins Stadium – FSU, The Orange Bowl
7. Rose Bowl – USC, The Rose Bowl

Nothing derogatory there, friendo
For three years all I really know about your real life is your grandpa, merle haggard and some tomatoes. You’re also largely ageless to me, so that travel experience had no context.
Plus, you’re the only one who called WVU’s stadium by its proper, Hungarian, name.

Folsom Field
How is a game there? I think it looks like an awesome setting and have always wanted to get to a game out there.
It is not a very large stadium, but it is very nice. Great view of the flatirons, not a bad seat in the place, and fall weather here is great for football.
My next stadium is going to be the one down at Air Force. I am curious to see how that one stacks up against Folsom Field.

Sam Boyd Stadium is correct!
Easy to forget. I was surprised there weren’t any slot machines in the stadium.
thanks man, it was a cool time in my life
some other tidbits:
The crappers in Ohio State have no doors, just toilets out in the open (that made for a pleasant pre game)
Iowa’s visitor lockerroom IS painted pink
And Wisconsin is the only one that does not have a dedicated coaches shower room. That is when I was able to confirm the rumors of JoePa’s ahem…prowess.
oh, and saw KKK and nazi signs in some hillbilly’s yard on the bus ride from the hotel in the sticks to Indiana’s stadium. the brother’s got a kick out of that one. it was surreal

Other than getting paid to play...
which is pretty cool, what did you think of the XFL?
Oh, we got both kinds. We got country AND western
It was my chance to prove I could play professional football
I really didn’t get a good crack with the Redskins (they signed 30+ undrafted free agents that year, most teams sign 8-12). I’m not crying sour grapes here, I wasn’t good enough to play in the NFL, and I wasn’t healthy, but I prolly signed with the wrong team in hindsight. The XFL was great, and I played for NY/NJ, so the proximity to manhattan was fantastic. I already had a job, and was only planning on playing that year anyway (my boss was gracious enough to keep my sales desk open), but by week 4 of the season, we knew the league was not going to last.
My sophomore and junior year in college, and the XFL year were my highest performing years.
I should also mention, since this particular position of coaching is a bit of a hot button at PSU, I had an amazing line coach in the XFL. The man’s name was Edwin (Pearl) Bailey, played 10+ years with the Seahawks, and played college ball at South Carolina State, or as he called it “the negro leagues” lol. I learned more in that 10 weeks about line play then I did in the previous 5 years.
Yikes...
30 is a lot of bodies to climb over. Great that you already had an alternative long term plan in place though.
Your OL comment makes me sad about the current state of affairs at PSU.
Oh, we got both kinds. We got country AND western
I don't have a bad word to say about Kenney or Anderson.
It is a different level though when you have a guy with a teacher’s disposition who has decades of playing experience.
Interesting.
I hear Jeff Hartings is coaching youth soccer or football or both (his kid’s). Can’t remember which it is. My boss told me…he sees him at sporting events of his grandkids. It may be he sees him at the football games because his daughter cheerleads…I just can’t remember it exactly. Anyway, it would be nice to somebody like that (with those kind of creds) come back and coach at PSU.
I was stepped away to do something (pfft...work, whatever), and thought I should add something here.
I don’t think Pearl would be a great college coach. He was very laid back. College kids need a little more “motivation” if you know what I mean. You know, there’s several methods to get something done. There is the math teacher that makes you do long division their way to get the answer, and there is the teacher that doesn’t care how you get the answer as long as it’s right. Pearl was the latter. BUT, Pearl also showed you 5 different ways how to get the answer if necessary. PSU is a little more “my way or the highway” method.
This is embarrassing.

I just remembered I’ve been to Michie Stadium for two Army/Navy games. SO MUCH FUN, and this was even before I liked college football.
I was young, like, 12 and 14 when I went
Boy scout camping trips in the area. I just remember there being SO much noise and excitement around. You couldn’t help but get excited. Seeing all the cadets walk in, it was awesome.
With all due respect to Deon Butler, even PSU doesn’t have the tradition to hold their nuts in that game.
they must have something arranged with Boy Scouts
because that’s pretty much exactly explains why I was there.
As for what game you watched…I don’t think you could have seen an Army/Navy game there, since it is usually held in Philly (and according to Wikipedia, the last Army/Navy contest was 1943). I don’t recall the opponent I saw, either, though, as it was like 20 years ago.

I'm not. Life Scout, baby.
Turned 17, got my driver’s license, had a girlfriend, scoutmaster changed over…. just kind of lost motivation at the end. I really regret not just sticking it out and doing my project. That was all that was left, but the new scoutmaster didn’t think renovating the weather observing site at the coast guard station was legit enough for a project.
What a douchea!
Talk about lack of leadership: the BSA is hurtin! We had a douchea Scoutmaster late in my scouting career, too, and he almost derailed me. Along with those other things you mentioned, except for girlfriend. Monogamy at 17? No way, straight playa baby!
Anyway, I hope my lads get involved in scouting, because its format and structure is really, really sound. Just needs better personnel. I totally plan to get re-involved as a leader. We had some decent ones, including some gay ones who were classy enough to wait til I turned 21 to out themselves to me.
The Indiana Hoosiers: a poor (and less arrogant) man's Michigan
My (future) kids will at least try scouts
I’m not going to force it on them, but I agree, the structure really helped me get my act together in school, so I want them to give it a shot. If they don’t like it after a year or so, I’ll let them drop it. Then again, I’m not a dad, so I’m not sure how my feelings will change with forcing/not forcing things haha.
The second scoutmaster I had was this woman who absolutely played favorites with the younger kids who had just gotten their Arrow of Light and come up into the troop (one of which was her son). She pretty much catered to them and left us out to dry. I know that sounds harsh, but you should have seen the look on her face when the Senior Patrol would suggest a camping trip. Oy.
I'm also just Life
I moved during that period of time, and didn’t like my new troop. It was too cliquish and I was the new guy, and hence odd man out. Stuck it out for a year or so until I got Life, and just wasn’t enjoying it anymore so I stopped going.

However, I believe I have convinced a friend and recent PSU grad that, when I return to PA, we’ll start planning road trips to away Penn State games. So there’s that.

you should start doing the trips while you are out in the midwest already
doing them all while from PA can add on a lot to the odometer

I tried, but TCF Bank will be me last one
I really don’t have the money right now (living off of student loans at this point), so I don’t have the money to be traveling buying tickets for football games. I’ll be moving back east come June, and then I’ll start to bring in an income (but will be much farther away from the stadiums, as you mentioned).
It’s not easy either way, but I fully intend to find a way to visit more stadiums.

I think we should form a BSD crime gang to make money for this adventure. We can be like the Ladykillers – but the good one with Alec Guinness.
A wolverine is really just an oversized groundhog. Also, the next man to call a stretch play gets sent to Botany Bay. Beat Michigan.
