When the game is on the line, when the whole season is on the line, and you need a playmaker behind center, who do you turn to? The highly-touted sophmore? The highly-touted true freshman? No sir. You look to the man with the neckbeard and a Mc in his name. The guy that was up all night last night slugging Bushmills and Bailey's. The guy who's need to unleash the dragon far outweighs the need to "manage the game."
There's no doubt in my mind the play call on 3rd and 8 with 35 seconds to go in the first half was a running play, and there's no doubt in my mind McGloin changed the play at the line when he saw the formation. Why do you think Smith didn't know the ball was coming? Why else did Joe have fierce words for him as he walked off the field?
McGloin threw 2 TD's today, the 2 TD's that made the difference in the game. If he had just managed the game, we'd have lost 21-19. We'd be in total meltdown mode ready to form an angry mob. Instead we're elated that a hungover Irishman willed us to victory with his grit and moxie.
And for the record if he had thrown that interception pass 5 yards further it would have been another McTouchdown.
So this is the "I told you so" thread. McGloin may not be our starter next week, he many not throw another TD pass again for Penn State. But today he saved us and Joe Paterno from the ledge, and brought us the most desperately needed W in 10 years. It wasn't pretty, but neither is McGloin:
MCGLOIN DESPITE THEM.
