I'm glad
Of course I know Bolden gives us the best chance, but the kid is 18 coming off of a concussion. He is our future, and he is a teenager. Give him a week and let me get healthy. I don’t want to see him take a hard hit this week, because it has been proven you are more prone to another concussion following one (i.e. Brian Westbrook last year).
Yeah, he'll be transferring....
To the safety position! (that’s a winner)
"Every player we have, someone-maybe a parent, a grandparent, someone-poured their soul into that young man. They are handing that young man off to us. They are giving us their treasure, and it's our job to make sure we give them back that young man intact and ready to face the world."

I was just thinking today
that Newsome would make an awesome Hero
"Every time you go to that cook-off you get drunk as a poet on payday!"
My thinking if I was Newsome is, well I couldn’t beat out a freshman for QB, maybe I can play somewhere else and still get in the NFL. There is a chance he could think this way.
eff it, I'm going derp
It would be smart and logical
and as we know 19 year olds are always smart and logical! But I would think he has major upside as an athlete, like NFL caliber. WR or S would be cool.
Even though I think we'll lose anyway...
I refuse to believe anything that is “confirmed” by “sources” until I see with my own eyes. Especially since it’s Musselman.

If I was a conspiracy theorist,
I’d argue that the program may have intentionally leaked incorrect information to complicate things for Michigan. And if they needed to find a rube to leak misleading info to, well, they’d have a lot of choices in PA, but Musselman is as good as any.

I'd like to propose a motion
If you are one of the people that are already writing the game off if McGloin starts, and if Penn State wins with McGloin at QB, you are not allowed to cheer and/or celebrate. You will take your insults and you will be booed and have your opinion disregarded for an amount of time relative to the amount of internet crap you talk about McGloin.
And if Newsome also plays, you cannot say “Well we only won because they played Newsome, too.”

Not strong enough.
I say that if you are jesse., and if Penn State wins, you must be insulted and booed and must have your opinion disregarded for 31 days (Since you predicted UM 51, PSU 20).

But that's what I'm saying.
You will be booed to a level commensurate with your prediction and/or disdain for McGloin. In jesse.’s case, 31 days seems fair.

Except I never said anything bad about McGloin.
If I’m wrong about the defense, you can boo me all you like.
I'm not trying to be anti-social, but I'm cooking, so I get to be.
Beat Indiana State.
Ok, but we have to get this in writing first:
Do you consider the following statement to be an accurate appraisal of your feelings: Penn State’s defense may not be any better than Indiana’s defense?

Penn State’s defense may not be any better than Indiana’s defense.
That is an acurate statement.
I'm not trying to be anti-social, but I'm cooking, so I get to be.
Beat Indiana State.
If you say so.
Penn State’s rushing defense: 52nd place
Penn State’s passing defense: 29th
Penn State’s pass efficiency defense: 71st
Penn State’s total defense: 31st
Penn State’s scoring defense: 22nd
Indiana’s rushing defense: 84th place
Indiana’s passing defense: 68th
Indiana’s pass efficiency defense: 104th
Indiana’s’s total defense: 77th
Indiana’s scoring defense: 91st
But anyway, if Penn State holds Michigan under Indiana’s 42 points, I will mock you and boo you.
If Penn State does not hold Michigan under 42 points, feel free to mock me, boo me, or laugh at me, but I’ll probably be taking a couple of weeks off to contemplate things and grow an Al Gore beard.

Good rebuttal. I rescind previous booing adjudication.
The defense has been bad all along, contrary to Rambler’s expert judgment.

So, are we just ignoring statistics? Because the statistics say Penn State is mediocre, which is bad by our standards. Indiana is bad by any standard.

Well there is a big giant maybe in that sentance above.
Second of all, like I’ve said many times, I don’t think that anybody with the skill players to do it (read Alabama or possibly Iowa) had any inclination to blow Penn State out of the water. Had Alabama dropped 50 on us, and I believe they could have, our statistics would be worse.
I'm not trying to be anti-social, but I'm cooking, so I get to be.
Beat Indiana State.
That's a pretty big maybe too, jesse.
Penn State has played a tougher schedule and they’ve come through with a defense that is, on average, 36 spots better than Indiana’s defense. The problem with saying Alabama could have dropped 50 on us is not that it’s a stretch, the problem is that it doesn’t change the fact that Penn State’s defense is superior to Indiana’s defense. I think Michigan could drop us 20 spots in the rushing defense rankings on Saturday. And we’d still probably better at stopping the run than Indiana.

I have yet to see anyone I would describe as a McGloin hater.
There are people who say, “McGloin’s starting? Aww crap.”
There are also people who say, “McGloin’s starting? Figures! I told you so! I told you Joe was inviting disaster when he made Devlin transfer!”

Is it sad that I can't hear the name "Pat Devlin"
without wincing a bit?
Good luck to the kid and the whole bit, but dammit if his supporters haven’t browbeaten me repeatedly in attempts to make me say that he should’ve been named the starter in 2008 instead of DC-17.

Confused on how to feel about this one...
On one hand:
-Jay said Bolden has looked alright in practice
-Bolden has played in a few primetime games under the lights, so he’s got some more experience.
-Passing seems essential to our offense more than ever this year and he can throw darts..
-A win would go along way in making a bowl bid easier.
On the other hand:
-Don’t want to endanger the kid
-Maybe our ground game can get it going this week

I'm OK with this
so long as PSU abandons the run entirely which, even if RoBo were playing, I think PSU should seriously consider, especially against Michigan.
Many people consider McGloin to be the better throwing QB. I have no idea whether or not this is true, but some people feel that way. This Michigan secondary, along with Indiana’s, have no business being in 1A, let alone the Big Ten. Throw. The. Rock.
Can you feel a little love? Dream on; dream on

We are going to win
The offense came alive with McGloin at the helm. He’s not as good as Bolden, I know that, he knows that. So what he does is make up for it by inciting fire and energy on the offense. Remember, he knows this offense better than Bolden. He won’t hesitate to audible either.
One of the biggest reasons we’ve had such inconsistent offensive drives is that Bolden isn’t allowed to change the play at the line of scrimmage. McGloin can, and he will. I’m convinced he did at least once last week.
We are going to win simply because McGloin offers what the offense needs most: a vocal and passionate leader. He’ll provide that spark the younger players will feed off of.

I wonder who Joe Paterno strangles with piano wire first if McGloin audibles?
McGloin? I mean, he’d be on the field and he’d have to waste a time out.
Jay or Galen? He’d have to walk to the press-box, and that’s a haul.
It’s gotta be Big Red, right? He’d be right there.
Once McGloin audibles the smoke coming out of Paterno’s ears will turn into a thought bubble that reads; “now I understand Woody Hayes theory on sometimes you just gotta hit a bitch”.

do you remember the 3rd and 8 throw last week?
McGloin threw a nice pass, very catchable to a 1-on-1 Smith. Smith had no idea the ball was coming, and afterwards Joe had some fierce words with McGloin. I believe that the play called was a running play, but McGloin saw man coverage on Smith and changed the play at the line (or he just took the option to throw the ball).

So he audibled without death...
…but not without incident. In all seriousness, on his second touchdown pass he couldn’t have telgraphed that throw more than he did if he had actually passed a note to the defender before hand.

I'm pretty sure he was passing handwritten notes to the defense on about half the plays
or at least communicated via sign language

certainly a good story and seems like a good kid. And he may be a better passer than Newsome.
But I haven’t seen anything yet that leaves me with a good feeling when I see him under center, with the exception of a few snaps he’s taken from the victory formation.
I hope I’m wrong, but my gut tells me that we’re going to see way more bad than good.
Should be interesting
This season is one for development. Not that Bolden getting a head injury is good, but McGloin starting will help build character with the team. I think he will make some insane throws. Those will cost us. But Michigan won’t be able to game plan as easily, either. If we get Newsome in for a series her and there, that adds to the difficulty. Michigan will be even more overconfident think it’s facing a walk-on 3rd stringer.
I still believe in Bolden long term. But the offense with him in was pretty predictable due to the lack of balance. Not his fault. Maybe McFarve is the right man for the job right now.
