After reading through the Collegian Opinion Page today, I noticed a lot of mail reguarding the poor attendance by students during the home games.
Watching the Northwestern game, I couldn't help being frustrated every time the camera would pan out to show the student section. Nearly 1/3 of the East Section seats (Juniors and Seniors) going into the 2nd quarter we left empty. As I sat there watching with my family I heard comments such as, "These students just don't give a damn. They'd rather be drinking"...so on and so forth.
A lot of blame can be attributed to the new ticket system. Students have complained that it has slowed the seating process to a snail's pace, sometimes taking over 40 minutes to get from Gate A to their seats. Let me put that in perspective to when I went to the Illinois game. I was at the gate by 11:30, hit the head, grabbed a popcorn, found my seat and still had 15 minutes before kickoff.
So what can we do?
