Wisniewski is Paterno's Grand Experiment
This kid blows me away. First letsgopsu tells me he's a Schreyer Scholar. Getting into that program is as difficult as getting into Harvard. Mike tells me he's the first three time academic all-american in PSU history. Then I read this.
He has amassed a grade-point average of 3.91 as a secondary education major in the Schreyer Honors College.
Wisniewski divided his time between the football field and State College Area High School classroom last season, teaching 10th-grade English.
And last spring and in the summer of 2009, Wisniewski traveled to the Dominican Republic to take part in a week-long mission trip. Leo and Steve Wisniewski accompanied Stefen on the summer trip and the trio helped build a church and played with the children of Haitian immigrants.
So not only is he exceptionally smart, and gigantic and athletic, he goes on mission trips every year? And he wants to be a high school teacher? (aside for that whole NFL thing) I want this guy for a son-in-law. And I don't even have a daughter...yet. I seriously hope being a pro athlete doesn't mess him up, but it sounds like he's got a solid character foundation.

It's almost a shame he plays for Penn State
Maybe I’m completely off base here, but I feel like he would be getting a lot more attention from twwl if he played for tOSU or U$C… I mean if he played for Urban Meyer he would most likely have his own 24/7 coverage..
All that aside, I’m very proud that he is a Penn State kid.. He’s an excellent example and I wish him all the best in his bright future.

If he played for one of those schools
He would get attention in much the same way that the world’s shortest man and Elephant Man get attention – for being so starkly different from those around them that they stand out immediately.
At Penn State, he stands out more like the valedictorian at Princeton stands out – the best of a traditionally outstanding group.

I think it has more to due with the fact he is an offensive lineman on a mediocre to above average team.
If he was a skill position player and if Penn State was competing for a national or even Big 10 title, his off the field accomplishments might earn more accolades from the national media.

If he played for one of those schools...
…he could skip the NFL and go straight into teaching, as he’d already be a millionaire.

I like that you didn't hear about this in the media all the time
Not to take anything away from Tebow, or the FSU Rhodes scholar guy (forgot his name), or McElroy for being a Rhodes finalist, but I like that Wiz was under the radar, just doing what he felt right personally, not being put in the spotlight. I’m not saying these other guys do this stuff for the limelight (I’m sure they don’t), but when you hear about it over and over and over, it’s hard NOT to get a little snarky about it.
Gradulations, Wiz!! Now kick some Spartan butt!
"God is great, beer is good, and people are crazy"
Wiz is pretty awesome in real life, too.
I have a few friends who have met him, and one who sees him regularly through his involvement with a Christian group on campus. She says he’s a genuinely nice guy and gives monster hugs.
"We have the plainest uniforms you can make. We know who we are. We are Penn State, and that's something special."
Would that Christian group
perhaps be this one?

Yes, I apologize
I’m not sure why – I used the built-in SBN link function but for some reason it screwed up.
In any case, the clickable link at the end DOES still work.
(And on a related topic, SBN really needs an edit and/or delete button.)
A good friend of mine from HS student taught with him at SC High
Said he’s a great guy, and they both taught English, so they talked to each other a lot, which is pretty cool that he’s grounded enough to talk to people far, FAR less athletically gifted as he is (with offense definitely intended to my good friend, lol, although he’d be the first to admit his lack of athleticism)
What a Great young man.

Sounds like he's a pretty amazing young man.
I wish him the best of luck. Can you imagine having him as your high school English teacher? That would be so cool!

I still have to find the article with the photos of him the little kids in Haiti.
It was so cute. They were climbing all over him.
400. That is all.
Good for him
And good to see an intelligent, talented man wanting to get into education. We need more of them.
Tebow had an 890 SAT
Tebow is not worth mentioning in these conversations.
All the magazines are saying that terrible is the new horrible
My math score was, I believe, around 480
I sucked at math.

how'd you do on the SAT II History test?
by The JuggerNitt on Nov 26, 2010 4:35 PM EST up reply actions
did he really?
new system started in either 2005. Assuming he took it fall of his senior year in HS, then it is probably under the old system.
Just checked his scout page and it says he actually got a 1480 (under the new 2400 system), so I guess that answers both questions :-p

Um WHAT?!
Why did I think Tim Tebow was at least kinda smart? 890??? That’s embaressing. That won’t even get you into U. Park.
I forget the name of that logical fallacy
but the one where you sorta assume an expert/genius in one field is gonna be an expert/genius in ALL fields.
Yes, he’s good at the FB playing QB and the jump pass, and preaching and going on missionary trips, but outside of that, who really knows.
Not to say he’s a bad person, or a failure, but maybe just not good at the standardized test.

I'm projecting
I tended to put somewhat undue worth on test scores, because I was really good at taking tests. Of course I know some people are just bad at taking tests and yet still highly successful in life.
I mean, I think I know that. I haven’t yet met anyone truly successful in my judgement that has told me they sucked at test taking LOL. I guess Tebow would fall into that catagory.
Would you consider yourself an "elite" test-taker?
"God is great, beer is good, and people are crazy"
Yes, yes I would. *grin*
But I haven’t taken a test in a long time now. If I didn’t have kids I would totally take the GMAT just for fun. And the GRE too. I love tests.
I can't wait until I have to take those
wait… I can’t use the sarcasm box in the subject line? Dang!
I got a 25 on my ACT the first time and a 27 the next time. And I improved in math by 9 points…without a calculator.
That was about as big a WTF moment as J.J. Watt intercepting Denard Robinson for me…
