So we've all been blitzed with this new Big Ten logo/division/trophy malarkey. I'm glad to hear Delany went public and mentioned they will re-evaluate the division names. Thank you all who have let you voices be known. Let's not use each and every chance we, Americans, get to market ourselves to over analyze things. Things that sound good in design meetings have only turned out to be as disconnected from the fan base as professional players' salaries. But enough of the snide suggestions of what our division names should be, let's make a real suggestion.
I’m offering up the following alignment;
Big Ten CENTRAL Division: consisting of OSU, PSU, Wisky, and company
Big Ten WEST Division: consisting of UofM, Neb, Iowa, Minn, and others
Wouldn't this eliminate the East/West or North/South issue officials have been so worried about, and perhaps even make sense with our conference a little? For instance, the west consists of the 3 most western schools in the Big Ten (so there's your geography link) and, Oh Bonus! Michigan's fight song ends with the phrase, "Champions of the West!" which hasn't really made sense as lyrics since America expanded a bit further west since 1817. My god, it's like things could actually make sense!! With calling our division, Central, you could avoid the whole direct geography argument. And wow, Einstein, all of the team in the Central division (and the Big Ten market for that matter) are considered by a few people in the country to be "Centrally" located in relation to the United States. There's no need for our beloved conference to differentiate itself by being overly creative and Disney. Big Ten speaks for itself, leave something to the imagination. Don't allow us to be the laughing stock of the nation's conferences.
Best of all, I offer this idea to the Big Ten officials and Mr. Delany for a steal in comparison to what it took a project team months to create. Why, because I LOVE My Big Ten!!!
