I keep finding myself rooting for Fitz and NW
This quote is copied from Rittenberg's article :
"I don't cohabitate very well with prima donnas," Northwestern head coach Pat Fitzgerald said. "The hat charade and the decommitting and the recommitting, I'm not looking to recruit those kind of young people. Those aren't the things that we believe in and value in our program. ... I don't really care what anybody ranks our class right now. They fit us, we believe in who they are, and more importantly, we trust our evaluation."
I think this guy is a great coach and who reminds me a lot of Paterno. Quotes like this and the way he acts makes it easy to root for NW in my opinion.

100% agree
Just got done reading that article myself.
When I look at the current coaches out there, Fitz gets a lot of respect from me. Fitz, to me, seems like that coach who could be at NW for however many years/decades because of the attitude he has, his passion for that program, and the fact that he has class and seems to want to surround himself with similar minded people. Does seem a little “Paterno-esque” to me as well.
It’s been pretty clear to me, from reading a lot of the main guys who post and contribute here, that no one is really into the hat game and all that mess that comes with some of these kids now a days. Which obviously, I think is a trait a lot of us look for in future Penn Staters.
You stay classy, Pat Ftizgerald.
OMGWTFLOL!
No Beef With Fitz or NW
Pretty much what both you and the article said. I like this guy and will always pull for him. When he first took the position, I thought that it would be under some sort of interim status and that he would be canned within a year, especially under the conditions in which he received it. However, I am glad that NW stuck with him and I hope to see success for NW and Fitz.
FITZ MUST G0
HE SAYES RIGHT IN THE ARTCLE HE DON CARE
I told you in that car that don't move.

I always root for Northwestern, and Stanford
and Notre Dame to a lesser extent. I respect the schools that actually understand what student-athlete means. I know people crap on Duke baskeball, but they don’t get the one-and-done primadonnas, they get kids like Battier and Jay Williams and Kyle Singler who get their degrees while playing basketball, and stay for four years.
NittanyWhiteOut.com. Arguably the second best Penn State blog I know of.
seriously though...
…the Duke example is unreal. Luol Deng is about the only underclassman I can think of that left early. He’s also an ESL 1st generation immigrant and I’m sure Krydftsgjhfsvwkiwee said “go get that $$$ son”
And Deng’s thriving in the Association.
Coack K has a legit program…and I HATE Duke hoops.
So did Jay Williams
Although he did have his degree….in…..sociology.
I’ve been googling…
Dunleavy left early too? Wow. Really?
Hat guys
I’m trying to think off the top of my head which guys we’ve had that did the hat thing. I know Antonio Logan-El did it, and I think Chris Bell did too. Maurice Evans and AJ Wallace did it together at the Army All-American game. So……yeah. Did DWill do it?
If they did do the hat thing, it's funny
Because how did their careers at PSU work out for Bell, Evans and Logan-El?
no wonder we have such high opinion of the hat game
seriously, I almost wish the coaching staff would make an announcement to recruits that the scholarship offer is only valid upon condition that they don’t do any “hat dance” or other stupid LOI day gimmick. I don’t mind the kids taking their time and making a decision, but for most of these kids they probably have known where they are going for weeks or months, and just want to be able to be on national TV with the spotlight squarely on them. That is not the kind of player that thrives at Penn State, and so we really don’t need them.
So take all the time you want. Make your announcement on LOI day or after if it so pleases you, but if it is anything more than releasing a simple statement like, “I’d like to thank my family and friends for helping me in this decision, and I am so gracious to all the universities which have extended me a scholarship offer. I would like to announce that I will be attending XXX.”
I don’t understand why these kids can’t just do it in a fax like everyone else.

Fitz always has great One-Liners in interviews
He’s definitely worthy of respect and of course it’s easier to admit that when he’s of little threat to our program.
The only thing preventing me from calling this a full fledged man crush
is that he went to NW. Not that I hate NW, but it pretty much prevents us from bringing him and his PSU-like mentality to Happy Valley.
Is it just me or does this guy have Penn State all over him. He has all the tell tale signs: Linebacker. Two time Nagurski and Bednarik winner. Hates prima donnas. Obvious Penn State mentality. Still has a Kyle Brady-esque haircut. Slow and Prodding.
Too bad he already has his dream job.
Under-recruited
Blew off by ND, goes to NW, wins awards, beats ND, goes to multiple Rose Bowls.
Yeah, dude's cool
Plus, he’s hated and disrespected by Iowa fans. And beats them regularly. We need to take notes.
"We just forgot our pants. Nothing against the team or anything like that." -- take a guess
From what I've seen...
Excluding last year when the Stanzi injury happened, Northwestern has beaten Iowa in years when Iowa was better, went to a better bowl game, etc. 2005, 2006, 2008 were results of (mostly) Iowa playing poorly and sloppily and/or looking past NW. With the exception of 2005, Northwestern hasn’t exactly looked better than Iowa in the games.
The problem I see is that Penn State is a marquee team – even when we’re bad, teams get up for us. Northwestern? Well, they’re just Northwestern.
