NCAA Tournament: Day One Open Thread

The NCAA Tournament kicks off today and this is your open thread.  There are no Big Ten squads in action until tomorrow, but #1 seeds Kansas and Kentucky will play this evening.

If you are stuck at work, fear not. Just close your door to your office, turn down the volume, and click here to launch the CBS March Madness On Demand video stream.

Here's to hoping both your bracket and your job make it through Day One.

No, I mean Fugi should probably have checked to see if someone else was posting an open thread in the fanposts like we did last year.

I put in the effort to write derogatory nicknames for each school and now I have to delete it because I can’t compete with the front page.

Weird/depressing seeing a lot of PSU’s NIT foes from last year in the dance this year. Baylor, Florida, Notre Dame. URI was on the bubble. George Mason, uh…existed.

well

My best bracket, as of right now, has Georgetown in the final 4. So… I’ve got that going for me…

by millzners on Mar 18, 2010 10:11 PM EDT reply actions

I only had one bracket. Didn't think you were allowed multiple brackets at ESPN.

Jealous.

FYI, I re-named mine “Lloyd Fredendall” because it sucks.

I filled out 10

But forgot to add the last 3 to the group, so I only have 7 brackets in the BSD group. You have to add each one seperately after it’s created. Pain in the dick. Anyway, CT MURPHY’S MUSTACHE RIDE is currently tied for 7th.

You're still better off than me

My brackets all have Marquette winning the championship.

What can I say? Last year was the first time I ever won money for one of my brackets. I felt like I could take a year off.

Damn.

The overseeding killed Marquette. That, and being a horribly inconsistent team. It’s like watching Penn State with better recruits.

so

Do we finally get to see the Big East exposed as horribly over-rated? This has been a piss poor day for that conference. I could still see the pundits making excuses.

No!

They’ll be right there again next year with 3 seeds they didn’t deserve.

I love these CBS commercials for their shows.

The fake people are naming their basketball champion and two of them say “North Carolina” and “Kansas”.

Great writing

current brackets with the most potential going forward

Kat We’re Comin’ 4 U, B. Bini
Queen Dopplepopolis, P. State (Me woo wooooooooooo)
RoyMan0 1, R. Hobbs

all have the potential to get 1800 points despite the current score.

by millzners on Mar 18, 2010 10:33 PM EDT reply actions

essentially

All three of those brackets are the only ones who’s sweet 16 are still in the tourney.

by millzners on Mar 18, 2010 10:36 PM EDT up reply actions

of course

They can’t just make it simple like “Current score” “total points possible” Plus they round up the % so 11/12=100% BRILLIANT!

multiple under same profile:

Under the black tab “My Entries” there should be a link in the drop down at the bottom that says something like “create another bracket”

not really

They’ll move the link next year just to mess with people. I hate the ESPN site when it comes to browsing around. We do our FF league on there and 3 years in I still can’t find things on there.

by millzners on Mar 18, 2010 10:41 PM EDT up reply actions

I never do multiples

One set of picks and stick with it. Calling an upset isn’t that impressive if you have ten brackets that don’t have it as well.

by SpartanDan on Mar 18, 2010 10:41 PM EDT up reply actions

That's not why.

I need two brackets. I want to see if I can get zero points in one. That’s a challenge.

Some guy in our group tried and he has failed.

Mainly because he picked the lower seed everytime. Bad idea.

The anti-perfect bracket isn’t anywhere near as hard as the real perfect bracket, but it’s still pretty freakin’ hard.
