Ott and Highberger Follow Babb and Edwards Out
Andrew Ott and Adam Highberger will graduate early and follow transfers Chris Babb and Bill Edwards out of the Penn State basketball program.

When are open try-outs?
Someone on here has to have some eligibility left, right? And as we saw with this years roster, all-world talent is not required. I’m sure 8th grade mvp or something similar could take one of the spots.
So which BSD’er will step up to make the last page of the media guide for the final year of the DeChellis project?
Yeah...
Don’t get your hopes up. They’re not firing Ed unless he has a worse record than this season. I believe that.

Right
In a way, this almost gives Ed an excuse to have a bad year next year.

Pathetic doesn’t begin to describe this program.

I’m sure you’ve watched many games this year!

Looks like a few players didn’t share and believe in Ed’s “vision”. It’s almost like the players have no faith in the head coach and the athletic department has no clue what’s going on inside the program.
It would seem Mr. Curley was a bit premature in his vote of confidence in Coach DeChellis.
Sure seems like a lot hinges on a 3* Guard that played AAU ball in upstate New York, the top NBA prospect in the big 10 and a few walk-ons. But then again Coach DeChellis gets paid top dollar to recruit, develop and work with the facilities he’s given. Clearly no other coach in the history of basketball could do any better.
You need to learn a new definition of "top dollar".
Man, you posters with Penn State emails are annoying.

You make a strong counter argument.
Clearly my vernacular is a bit wrong and I do indeed need to come up with a new definition for “top dollar”. Never-the-less, it seems that the program is heading in the wrong direction.
And no more than a week ago the common opinion of many fans was that Babb and Edwards were going to be keys in PSUs run at being an “on the bubble team” next year. They were apparently two of the young and improved players Coach DeChellis worked hard with.
Now by the same token, this same fan base now claims that these losses are not of significant importance due to what recruiting services considered a 3* shooting guard out of up-state New York playing AAU ball.
It would seem that while the Daily Collegian wrote an article about losing bringing the team closer togeather; it has in all actuality resulted in players not sharing in the same vision as Coach DeChellis and some upset fans.
...and
The people arguing that Babb and Edwards weren’t going to be any good over the next few years are now the same ones ready to push Ed off the bridge because of their departures, so what makes that any better/worse?

I would say
That the players leaving talent notwithstanding still shows a lack of confidence in the current players in respect to the coaching staff and the “vision” Tim Curley and Coach DeChellis share.
At the end of the day, it’s all about numbers right? Whether it be finances in the athletic department or wins-losses in the eyes of the fans. Well look at these numbers.
95-123. (Overall)
32-87. (Big 10 Conference Play)
10 total road wins in 7 years.
20 losses in conference in Year 7
The worst all time record in Penn State history.
There comes a time when it doesn’t matter if coach DeChellis is a nice guy. I’ve read about all the great things he does with Coaches vs Cancer and whatnot; nevertheless that is not what he’s getting paid to do. If I can borrow a phrase from Herm Edwards , “You play to win the game….”
These numbers are not what would be considered acceptable outside of Penn State. Yes, I understand there is probably a buyout clause in the contract that the athletic department doesn’t want to deal with. However, familiarity breeds complacency. The more PSU continues to lose and finish dead last, losing to teams like UNC-Wilmington the less people are going to care.
It’s come to the point where fans would be a bit more apathetic it they weren’t so used to the status quo that has come about over the last decade. And this is something that should be upsetting if not embarrassing to the fan base because clearly their is no success as far as wins-losses and their is no honor when you see players transferring out of the program because they don’t share the “vision” of the head coach

I’m sure you’ll have insightful comments (and GASP positive comments) in threads that don’t include bad news that allows you to complain.

Just felt I would leave some commentary in regards to the current situation. While it appears that our opinions may differ, I understand your point about beating the dead horse.
Fans are well as they say fanatic. And if I may quote Winston Churchhill, “A fanatic is one who can’t change his mind and won’t change the subject”. Some fans will not change their mind about the arguably poor state of the program because of their irrational enthusiasm.
Just like some fans will never be happy because of their irrational enthusiasm that nothing short of perfection is enough. This is what makes following sports great – people that have strong opinions and can argue them through with civility.
You talk just like FireJayPa.
Funny.

I really enjoyed his first few posts...
thought they were insightful and well written. Apparently many others did too by the amount of recs he first received. He has now turned into groundhog’s day.
I think as Penn Staters we all know too well the physical pain that comes attached to being this MBB program. All of us want to see this team turn the corner and give us something to root for. Unfortunately, these defections have opened up the floodgates of negativity.

Just when I thought the topic of PSU MBB couldn't get any sadder
I picture Ed in his car enjoying a 5th of bourbon while crying and listening to Enya.
Do you want the mustache on, or off?
Too bad.
Coincidently just watched someone get a DUI near the sheetz up Atherton, nearly fell out of the car to take the sobriety test. Needlessly to say the dude failed horribly. Maybe it was Ed. Fingers crossed

The ads on this site are so wierd, I feel like they’re hooked into my subconcious. I’ve started watching Holmes on Homes a lot recently, on HGTV, last week he’s in the banner ads on this site. Today I’m researching microphones and just now a B&H banner ad appears showing THE EXACT MIC I’ve been leaning toward. It’s either cookies or magic. But I’m freaked out just the same.
So just to confirm it isn’t magic, does anyone else see the banner ad for B&H w/ pictures of cameras and microphones?
