Ohio State Fans Violated Many Of Rick Reilly's Rules
I actually disagree with a lot of this but I can sign on to the general thesis.

Agree.
Maryland did this last night against Duke. A Top 25 Maryland team did this last night against Duke. A recent National Champion, Top 25 Maryland team did this last night against Duke. You get my drift…
"Have I ever told the story of when I met Miley Cyrus?"
Hahaha Duke lost.
Hahaha.

No, white and awkward with an annoying head coach.

Succesful? Yes.
Bo Ryan-esque whiner and always looking to the refs for help? Yes as well.

I don't know. You could probably make a colorful argument after watching enough tape that every NCAA basketball coach is a whiner that looks to the ref for help.

You could probably make a "colorful argument" (thank you, I will) after watching enough tape that no basketball coach gets calls like Coach K.

And you could make the same argument for every other coach. Again, with enough film.
Coach K is just the most famous person to have this reputation.
JOE IS OLD!!! But he wins, so its ok.

Ed sometimes complains very meekly, then he sighs and walks away.
Of course, Ed Hightower would t him up for this like he did to Lewis Preston.

And 7 of 10 conference tournament titles from 2000-2009?

Don't even
Get him started on Conference Tournaments.
Yeah, I mean Duke was totally the best team in the ACC last year.

And?

by Jeff Junstrom on Mar 4, 2010 1:43 PM EST up reply actions
Nothing except what I've said before:
Conference tournaments are stupid. North Carolina beat up Duke twice last year, and the ACC wants people to call Duke conference champions? Um, sure.

UNC won regular season title.
And find me a rule that says the higher seed has to win the tournament for it to be fair.
Conference tournaments don’t seem to add anything, but until they’re gone, its just one more bragging right for maybe another team. The only real stat is total winning pct and national titles.

Yeah, except the ACC doesn't recognize the regular season champion. Which is stupid.
Of course, Duke fans being devoid of arrogance would never support such a thing, right?
Here’s the point: Duke is Michigan, UNC is Ohio State. I despise the entitlement, arrogance, moral superiority, and snooty white kids of Duke. I dislike Mike K-whatver for whining and for his arrogance and his entitlement. I dislike Roy Williams for his shady recruiting and his attacking players like Delvon Roe. I dislike the entitlement, arrogance, and bandwagon fans of UNC. Both teams can suck it.
Well, except Greg Paulus and Julius Peppers. They’re cool.

For sure, the UM/OSU thing is almost a spot on match.
But Duke gets that rap because Coach K holds his players to a higher standard and demands more out of them. It doesn’t hurt that they go to an expensive private school.
I know another coach that respects moral fiber more than athletic prowess. He’s pretty good, too.

Duke gets “that rap” because his players flop, do things like this , and because their students are, for the most part, rich kids who act like arrogant rich kids.
Does it help that they are white and nerdy? No, but that’s not why people dislike Duke.

People are always going to find a reason to dislike other teams, especially the successful ones.
How do you feel about Michigan? How do you feel about OSU? How do you feel about PSU?
Its sports.

How do I feel about Michigan? The same way I feel about Duke.
It’s the arrogance. It’s the entitlement. It’s the old-ish coach who reminds me so much of Carr. It’s the players who flop or do something else and then look to the refs with that “What do you mean, you won’t call that??” face. It’s the fans who excuse all of this with “everyone does it”.
Michigan is Duke. QED.

I think
the conference title thing ties them with tO$U in titles, shared or otherwise.
Maryland
I think Maryland’s “storming of the court” was more to celebrate Greivis Vasquez’s last home game than them beating Duke. Maryland fans hate Duke, which is understandable, but Vasquez has been such a unique and popular figure in College Park that it trumps their hate for Duke.
If it was a situation of them storming for beating Duke, they wouldn’t haven’t waited patiently with .1 seconds on the clock and been forced to leave the floor and comeback later. Instead, they waited for the final free throws, then did their thing.
My Golden Rule of Court Storming
Are you a self-respecting basketball program?
If no, then storm away.
God Created the World Out Of Nothing, Paterno Built A National Superpower On Cow Fields...
the basic point from 11w
is that you should always rush the court or field. which is silly.
I know about your diabolical plan.
what is even sillier
is he basically comes up with one (actually pretty lame) rule for when you can rush the court, that just happens to justify OSU rushing the court in ridiculous fashion.
He says that you should rush the court any time your team clinches the conference championship (unless they were the pre-season favorite). Really? Even if you were the 2nd or third favorite? Maybe, just maybe, if you were a basement dwelling team that came completely out of nowhere to win your first conference championship in at least 10 years, or something along those lines, especially if the game was against the current favorite, and clinches it. But otherwise, no.
And really, under virtually no circumstance should a team ever rush the court after beating a lower ranked team (especially an UNranked team). There are of course a few exceptions, such as “last game in arena” or “iconic coach is retiring” or “starting 5 all fought through paralysis to rehab and come back just in time for last game of season”, but in general you just look really lame storming the court after winning a game you were expected to win. Some might even say you might look like a doucheabag.

I didn't watch them rushing the court because I turned it off to prevent the homicidal rage against Hightower that was growing within me...
But I do know that that arena wasn’t full.
Top 10 team. Check.
Championship on the line. Check.
Best player in the country. Check
Foul weather? Nope.

Agree as it pertains to NCAAF
It’s like walking down the aisle
Yeah if instead of a priest, it’s 100 cops in riot gear with fire extinguishers full of mace, then yeah it’s exactly like that.
For the record, I am 100% in support of keeping kids off the football field at Beaver Stadium. We are a proud, successful, perennial top 25 school. There is no opponent, no regular season game big enough to warrant rushing the field.
That being said, our basketball team is and has always been a disaster and if we ever beat a top 3 team at home, rushing the court is completely warranted. Hell, if we beat anyone of substance in the B10 tournament, I’ll drive up to SC and rush the court at BJC.
What I mean to say is, it’s all relative.
"We hugged as grown men do. It was a great moment. Then, it was business as usual." -- LJ Sr.
Agree. Also...
perennial top 25 school
I saw somewhere, and for the life of me cannot remember where now, that we are now in third or fourth place in active consecutive weeks in the Top 25 (behind FL, OSU, and maybe someone else).

Now we're a proud, successful, perennial top 25 school.
99% of the time, I’ll agree with your “no field rush” stance with regards to our football team. But ’05 OSU was the exception after enduring years of futility and wounded pride.
The other exception I’ll make is immediately after the clock hits 00:00, sealing a MNC for JoePa.
Luring recruits with my new "Posting HD" scheme since '08.
My basic rule of storming the court/field (basically the same as fugi's and Reilly's)
Act like you’ve been there before, especially if you have (especially if it was recent)
