Offseason Wrestling Update

Some minor updates to the wrestling program:

Bubba Jenkins

The Bubba Jenkins Saga has ended, he will enroll at Arizona St next fall. Should be a nice bump for an Arizona St program that has been on the rise. He immediately comes in as a title contender at 149 next year. He won the 145.5 freestyle title at University nationals.

Transfers

Jarrett Freeman a redshirt freshman has decided to transfer to a school in New York city where he is from. He didn't give an exact reason for his departure other than it was for personal reasons. He wasn't likely to see much mat time in the now over crowded middle weights.

Freestyle News

Penn State had several wrestlers compete in University Nationals. Freestyle is significantly different from Folkstyle which is wrestled in college so these results should be taken with a grain of salt. As an example Bryan Pearsall from Penn State is a very good freestyle wrestler and his results for Penn State this year were less than stellar.

David Taylor finished first at 70kg (154.25 lbs)
Quentin Wright finished first at 84kg (185 lbs)
Jared Platt was 2nd at 96kg(211.5 lbs)

Ed Ruth also wrestled and beat Jordan Blanton who was very good this year for Illinois and ended up finishing 2nd. Again not much to read in to these results. One big plus is Wright and Platt qualify for the newly renamed US Open with their finishes.
