Nitt Picks Dumps Links In Your Lap
It's the dog days of summer. That means college football news is hard to come by. Most of the stories you read are pretty shallow fluff pieces. So I'm just going to dump some links in your lap and let you read them. No commentary needed, really.
- It's camp season at Penn State, and some former players are getting their feet wet as coaches.
- Here is a nice recap of Penn State's history with Alabama. Though if you ask me, you can get a better recap if you buy a copy of We Are Penn State 2010.
- Florida State blog Tomahawk Nation takes a look at the correlation between defensive performance and the size of the front seven on defense. Penn State gets a mention there.
- ESPN's Ivan Maisel longs for the days when football coaches wore ties like Joe Paterno still does.
- The Post-Gazette says Joe Paterno should be healthy in time for the fall.
- Black Heart Gold Pants previews Penn State. Pretty good preview IMO.
- Josh Hull signs a contract with the Rams.
- The Rivalry, Esq predicts Penn State will go to the Gator Bowl.
- Mickey Shuler is trying to catch on with the Vikings.
- Talor Battle participated in a Nike skills camp with some college all-stars.
- The York Daily Record endorses putting Penn State in a western division with Iowa and Nebraska.

The York Daily Record can suck it. Anyone who “covers” Penn State and endorses that idea can suck it.
Am I getting too angry about this? Probably.

no my anger seethes too
ive completely stopped reading anything that advocates PSU in the west. it is inconceivably retarded and sends me into a blinding rage. the argument about splitting up psu/mich/osu is not viable right now. iowa, wisc, and neb are all better than mich right now…so if psu goes west, then for the next 3-5 years, osu is getting a free pass to the title game. all bloggers, sports reporters, nincompoops, need to remember it is no longer the BIG 2 and little 10.
It's like Hank, the rightfielder, is passing the ball on to the next rightfielder, and saying, 'Here it is, kid. Catch it.'"
Not some of ole Frank's best work
He wasted a lot of words with senseless buildup, and then missed oppty’s to spell out the rivalries maintained and dropped. I totally dig his profile pic tho.

Jtot, +1 for this at TRE:
Wow, high on a Michigan resurgence this year. What have you seen, developmentally from them, that allows to again think those 3games you were off last year won’t repeat itself? Less defensive ineptitude/more talent? An O that promises to win shootouts? Mental toughness? Improved coaching decision-making? Or deeply historical winning tradition?

I laugh at TRE
I think last year they predicted Michigan to the Capital One Bowl and PSU to the Alamo Bowl.
Mike
Black Shoe Diaries
They said we'd be 8-4
Now they’re saying 7-5. Same guy that made last year’s article about horses and ponies having something to do with football.
That site is a parody of a B10 blog. It’s an Ohio State and Michigan lovefest and occasionally they throw a bone to the other 9 teams in a high-handed way.
Do you want the mustache on, or off?
Too bad.
I haven't been reading there long
But am starting to file in with your and Mike’s sentiments. The writing overall is kinda meh and the commentariat is even a little underwhelming.
I’m still dedicated to the concept, tho, so I plan on going back. Two other reasons: I love to read about the hated buckeyes and currently the only place I can stomach is at Rivals. Similar re: mgoblog. I feel it’s kinda like when I learned to snowboard: I knew it was gonna be bumpy and I was gonna spend a lot of time on my ass, and I would need to be totally committed to it for a day or two. But I just knew I would love it after I learned (I do).
Not so sure about that with those guys. Maybe I can put out a plea to BSD’ers who do read there (mgo)? Bring in more cliffs notes this season, so I can see trimmed down versions of what I’m missing, but through the eyes of someone I trust. Ramblersegment maybe?
Crack is wac
Maybe if I get bored. But that sounds like a lot of reading and genuine work (of sorts) I’d rather not spend there.

Everytime I read blogs from other programs
I can’t help thinking of the quote by Pete Townshend, or maybe it was Entwistle, about “smelling your own farts” – You can’t appreciate them if it’s not your own.

How nutes would it be if we went to Gator?
That’d be 6 different bowls in 6 years.

Battle to the NBA
He’s an intriguing NBA prospect. On the plus side, he’s a “do-it-all” PG/SG who’s got good numbers in a good league, he’s absolutely fearless, and has a large handful of “HOLY CRAP DID HE JUST DO THAT I’M GOING TO SHAVE A NOTCH IN MY EYEBROW TO HONOR HIM” moments.
On the minus side, his team was never great (yet), he’s undersized, and not all that consistent.
Idle talk and hollow promises; cheating Judases; doubting Thomases
Jannero Pargo comes to mind.
I think Battle can make a solid career out of being a bench guy who can provide instant if inefficient offense off the bench for 10 -20 minutes a game.

Pargo's a decent comparison
I’m thinking more along the lines of a Nate Robinson who can play defense, which might amount to the same thing.
Idle talk and hollow promises; cheating Judases; doubting Thomases
I am a huge Nate Robinson fan.
I still vividly remember him going after Melo, fists up and Melo running away from him, after that little scuffle.
Oh, and in spurts, he could really ball.

ah...BHGP...
and the recurring “PSU has lost their offensive identity” argument. Really don’t want to wait until 2011 to beat these guys…and if we do it this year, I hope its buy running straight down their throats “2007 Outback Bowl Style”.
They had this play against Georgia Tech in the 4th where they lined up in the I-formation with two tight ends, and they motioned one towards the weakside. Georgia Tech thus knew exactly where the play was going but they couldn’t stop it, Wegher ran 20 some yards for a touchdown.
Stoops will never believe Penn State should keep the spread hd after that. I don’t really blame him.

I don't think we should force the spread exclusively
but if it works for the personnel, then use it.
Also, the Spread HD isn’t really all that spready. Sure it has its spread moments, but there were a lot of power packages as well.

Not to be a jerk but....
BFD.
When our O-Line was good in 2008, I remember (in person) watching Royster run into what seemed like a wall of SCUM only to emerge with a touchdown.
If the O-line talent is there this year, we could have one of the best run offenses in the B10.

I know, I get it...
They’ve got the edge on us right now and they’re not going to hesitate to let us know about it. Similar to Michigan until 2 years ago.
Lest we not forget that they rotated off our schedule in ‘05 and ’06, which were some pretty good years. But there’s nothing to do about that so its all moot.
Just win baby, win.

I think you may have missed the point.
Stoops isn’t bragging or trashtalking, he’s just the kind of guy who has an opinion on almost every subject and every football team in our conference.

Laughing about what precisely?
The fact that someone has an opinion that I don’t particularly care for?
If that gets your jollies, good for you I suppose.

Exactly, his opinions are disguised at discussion in which he subtly asserts that Iowa is superior

Usually, I can say something like ‘satisfying dump!’ But links in my lap? do.not.want.

And yet
In deference to MikePa, I’m not clicking this link: http://www.statecollege.com/news/local-news/penn-state-football-alabama-through-the-years-457672/, instead waiting for his superior version.

So with FSU's weight correlation article
we would have the best defense of all time if BWare played?
You're assuming he wouldn't eat several other players on the team...
He’d find them under lamps, or wherever else he hides his stock.
