Sunday Nitt Picks
Sorry for my absense on Friday. I'm on vacation with the family through this next week. Don't worry, I have some stuff planned for you while I'm gone. For today, here's a quick Nitt Picks.
The Reading Eagle has their annual interview with Joe Paterno. This morning is part one. I found Joe's thoughts on succession plans pretty interesting.
GoErie.com talks about the Penn State quarterback situation.
ESPN talks about Big Ten expansion with Tim Curley.
Two really good articles on some incoming basketball freshmen: Tre Bowman and Jonathan Graham.

Admitting we may play two QBs
I’m fine with using two guys so long as it doesn’t telegraph the play. After watching PSU use Morelli and DWill in sort of that fashion, telegraphing is a serious possibility.
Idle talk and hollow promises; cheating Judases; doubting Thomases
I think the Lions will be fine with an effective offense.
An “effective” offense, i.e., one that’s in the hands of a shaky, left-handed QB who throws game-winning interceptions to Ohio State and Michigan, will result in NOTHING but heartbreak.
Joe Paterno’s teams tend to field great defenses. The question is, how will the offense play? Will PSU go old-school Wisconsin and give the ball to Evan Royster 38 times a game?

IF
‘Rolls gets the ball 38x’s a games…the O is pounding the D pretty damn hard…and we’re winning – so I’m perfectly fine w/ that.

Let's not forget......
Zach and MRob…..Telegraphing plays then was so obvious and if you didn’t use a “telegraphed” play, the down was actually wasted.

Zach and MRob didn't have quality receivers, though.
And MRob made more plays based on willpower than any other QB…

I think he means "Zach + MRob"
Whenever Mills and Robinson were in the game, it was a pretty strong telegraph that the play was probably going to be “ball goes to MRob and he runs with it.”
OK, he threw a few times, but it was typically a disaster.

hey, Mills passed, ran, and received a TD all in one game
while the plays were heavily telegraphed, it wasn’t completely obvious what would happen. Sure, Mills likely was just a lame decoy lined up wide, but sometimes the ball actually went to him, and I recall him throwing some good blocks as well. Morelli, on the other hand, was completely useless lined up wide.

Quotes like this continuously add to the immense amount of reasons I love Joe Paterno
Did you like being in the gym or in the classroom?
A: I taught volleyball (when he was an assistant coach). That’s why we have such great volleyball teams at Penn State. The assistant coaches helped out with the required phys ed program. Jim O’Hora taught swimming. Frank Patrick taught boxing.

I do too
I wouldn’t know what to say to him though. I’m a huge fan, and he’s one of my idols just doesn’t seem like it would warrant a letter.
However, it’s a personal goal (more like a bucket list item) to meet him someday. I’d probably be nervous as hell, and not be able to get any words out. He just seems like the kind of guy that if my dad and I started talking to him, we could go on for hours with me listening to stories of games past, and I’d just sit back in awe and total disbelief. I took a walk back around his house one time, and even that was nerve racking for me, lol
