BSD meme tournament FINAL FOUR part 1
After a week's wait to allow more voting, it is meme time at Black Shoe Diaries. Though voting is technically still open (For some reason, I can't close polls), it's been a week and football season is approaching, so let's finish this thing. The next poll will most likely be posted on August 3rd.
Bracket:
Winner of the Sidney Crosby region - by 80 to 17 over second seeded Bacon - first seeded Graham Zug.
Levitate!
In a shocking upset, winner of the Mario Lemieux region - by 62 to 37 over second seeded HATE! - thirteenth seeded Daryll Clark fist pump.
Daryll Clark, shown here presumably pointing at the scoreboard. Hahaha.
Winner of the Joe Paterno region - by 62 to 56 over fifth seeded Jenn Brown, sophomore, economics - second seeded Your wife sounds hot!
That is a short tie.
Winner of the Erwin Rommel region - by 70 to 34 over thirteenth seeded "Not everybody is the perfect person in the world. Everyone does. Kills people, murders people, steals from you, steals from me, whatever. I think that people need a second chance, and I've always looked up to Mike Vick, and I always will." - second seeded The Hullstache
Steak.
Commence voting.

First post and first rec!
No offense to the god Zug (meaning please don’t strike me down where I sit), I had to go with the fist pump, because I just love those pictures and have so much respect for Clark after reading the article on him in last year’s We Are Penn State magazine.
For the glory
I went with the fist pump as well
I loved watching Clark celebrate

That was a slaughter.

Two hours in and they're divided by one vote...
this will be a good one. A fight to the finish!

Anyone who votes for Clark is voting for Iowa.
Think about that.

The only good thing to come out of Iowa is American Pickers.
I don’t even ask people if they watch Pickers or Pawn Stars anymore. I just assume they do.
Bacon is almost as great as being a Penn Stater
I don't know what you're talking about.

Right. I'm supposed to believe you don't watch the History Channel?
What next? Fugi doesn’t watch the Disney Channel?

Real history buffs haven't watched the History Channel since it stopped being the Hitler Channel.
Endless shows about Lost Nazi Gold are better than Discovery Channel stuff about Ice Road Truckers or Aliens or whatever an American picker is.

My first sentence is a bit too arrogant.
I guess there’s probably something about history on that channel that isn’t a reality show or related to conjecture about aliens or monsters, but not whenever I try to find a show about history on that channel that isn’t a reality show or related to conjecture about aliens or monsters.

I don’t understand how cable tv can support so many ghost/alien shows. It pains me to know that Paranormal State was started by Penn Staters. And why are these shows on Discovery and History?!?!
why do we need a reality show about exterminators?
Ia ora te natura, E mea arofa teie ao nei
Ua pau te maitai no te fenua, Re zai noa ra te ora o te mitie
SAVE THE GULF
Does that guy's mom start every single conversation with "HEY BILLY!"?

I have never watched it
So I do not know.
Ia ora te natura, E mea arofa teie ao nei
Ua pau te maitai no te fenua, Re zai noa ra te ora o te mitie
SAVE THE GULF
Well, they're all really Southern.
And every single episode starts with his mom calling him, saying “HEY BILLY!”, and telling him the problem.

It can't be as mind numbingly
dull as Whale Wars. It just can’t.
At this point if you don’t have your own show on cable, it is only because you don’t want one.
One man doing the work of 100's for the good of 1000's
That Paul Watson guy gathers a bunch of well intentioned but novice crew members, sends them out there under the direction of a skipper who thinks it’s cool to ram the whalers and commit other acts very close to piracy. This same skipper then complains when the Japanese ram his multimillion dollar awesome superfast trimaran thing when it drives into the path of a Japanese ship. I like to think there’s a better way to stop whaling than doing something that will probably end up killing some poor kid.
That same Paul Watson guy got kicked out of Greenpeace for being “too radical”, by the by.

This is from wikipedia's description of that show
which include throwing stink bombs of butyric acid as well as ramming, boarding, and otherwise attempting to disable the Japanese vessels.
Yeah, sorry, but that’s piracy. I don’t see any reason to continue whaling, but piracy isn’t going to stop anything. If they ever actually “disable” (also known as “sinking” which, you know, often results in deaths) a Japanese ship, they’ll get shot up by a Japanese 5 inch gun on a frigate if they ever show up again.

We watched it until it became unwatchable.
That took about 2 episodes. They fail nonstop. And wonder why. It kind of reminds me of the Pirates (no pun intended) – they hire the cheapest labor and expect everything to be rosy. I could run a better anti-whaling campaign from Pittsburgh.

Yeah, pure incompetence (their biggest fault) doesn't really win me to someone's side.
Why don’t they hire Ron Zook?

by ReadingRambler on Jul 29, 2010 4:07 PM EDT up reply actions
No, but it DOES make for great on-demand watching!
I kept waiting for one of them to get beat down by one of the japanese or something. Or worse one of their stink bottle crates to get dropped on their own deck.
That's the problem
with the show – NONE of that good stuff happens.
How many times do you have to get hit on the head with a frying pan to figure out that you don’t like to get hit on the head with a frying pan? For me the answer is one – Whale Wars got one view out of me and I knew it was going nowhere.
One man doing the work of 100's for the good of 1000's
By the end it was cyclical.
Paul Watson gets idea, Paul retires to man chambers to let underlings hash out idea (including alarmingly effeminate Peter), underlings fail miserably with even simple tasks, Paul arrives to make matters worse, roll credits, repeat in seven days

I'll agree that IRT has no place on the History Channel.
However, Pawn Stars and American Pickers have good historical tidbits. Their popularity should be leveraged by interspersing them with the documentaries history buffs enjoy, hopefully exposing the documentaries to a wider audience. Monsters and aliens should be on TLC or something equally useless.
There are still plenty of Nazis and Krauts and Charlie on the History Channel, but they’re not on during primetime. Even more of them on the Military Channel. I do love learning about Wings of the Luftwaffe while listening to Chopin preludes (they’re so somber, you can feel the impending doom of the Reich).
Bacon is almost as great as being a Penn Stater
I love Secrets of World War 2.
Actually, not really, I find it boring. Even if they’re talking about the awesome Operation Mincemeat, they seem to stare at pictures for fifteen seconds more than is needed as if they’re stretching out the show.
Clash of Wings (Is that what it’s called) is great. I loved the Soviet Union versus Luftwaffe, as their two narrators had cheesy accents from both sides.

Waffen-SS documentary was on H-International this morning while I ate breakfast.
Makes my work day pale in comparison to having to battle fanatical Nazis. Thankfully they glossed over Market Garden – an in-depth look would have make for a depressing start to the day. Stupid Monty. Nothing like having a viable plan and no will to carry it out.

I think they should just play "Patton", "The Longest Day", "Das Boot" and that show about snipers on an endless loop.

Oh, and they should also make a film version of “The Guns of August” starring Peter O’Toole as Kaiser Wilhelm, Sean Connery as Marechal Joffre, Nicolas Cage as Sir John French, Christopher Walken as Erich Ludendorff, Clint Eastwood as Paul von Hindenburg, and Morgan Freeman as Tsar Nicky.

don't get me started on reality show proliferation
I can’t stand it when there is a tie to the channel, but sometimes it is just downright ridiculous. And yet it is cheap to produce, and still makes $. Sigh.

Daryl Clark fist pump is an extremely fond memory when we stomped Wisky.
Someone tweet Daryll Clark,

Disagree.
Remember, its a meme tourney. Zug is international. The fist pump, while EPIC, does not have the gravitas that ZUG carries.

Word
Gravitas: good word, heft. As in the weight of Zug’s left nut.
Ohio State has the worst fans in the Big Ten. Bar none. And it’s not even close. Humorless in defeat. Condescending in victory. Generally insecure all the time. I’ve partied and had fun with fans of every team in this league, save Ohio State.
In one of the few (or perhaps only) times I'll publically support a meme in this tournament
I’m completely and 100% in agreement with Kevin on this. Love the Zug, but his time will soon come to an end. DC’s fist pump, however, will live on forever.

Don't worry - I see Zug's lead
Just like I saw an undeserving Duke team win the NCAA tournament this year.

but I have to counter with quite possibly the greatest photoshop in BSD history (made by Mike if I remember correctly):
