How many times have we heard that the SEC was sooooooooooo much better than the Big Ten? Well just for the heck of it, I did a comparison of the six BCS Conferences and included the Mountain West (I did this post expansion moves), matching up the teams one by one and it turned out pretty interesting.
If the Big Ten and SEC would do a match up of teams, aka as the Big Ten - SEC challenge, I don't see the SEC being any better, team for team than the Big Ten. If they were to match up in a challenge, I believe the Big Ten would do more than hold their own and at least split 6 wins & 6 losses.
The ACC matches up pretty well, but once you get past the top tier teams of the 12 PAC and the ten teams of the Big 12, the drop off seems to be pretty significant. The Big East is a remote sixth best, but still better than the Mountain West, who once you get past TCU, Boise State and BYU, there is a BIG drop off.
Of course, these are all my opinion, but you can tweak it any way you like and there really isn't a big difference.
So here are my matchups:

I think a Big Ten - SEC challenge should be considered and It shouldn't hurt the rankings. I think a close loss by Georgia to Wisconsin, should count more for their rankings than a blowout win against Georgia State. This is one area that is seriously flawed with the current system and causes us, the fans, to miss some quality non-con match ups.
So express yourselves.
