Moye, Royster, Crawford Named To Watch Lists
A slew of college football award watchlists were released yesterday, and Penn State was well represented.
Derek Moye was named to the Biletnikoff Award watch list for the nation's top receiver. He is one of seven Big Ten receivers to be nominated for the award.
Moye has quietly become a big threat in the Penn State passing game, and it's nice to see him get some recognition. He should be a big, tall safety blanket for whatever young quarterback emerges from the pack to take the job. Moye had 48 catches for 785 yards and six touchdowns in 2009.
Jack Crawford was named to the Chuck Bednarik Award watch list for the country's best defensive player. Crawford had five sacks in his sophomore season and will be a big piece of Larry Johnson's defensive line in 2010 following the departure of Jared Odrick.
And of course, who else by Evan Royster is in line to take home some hardware after being named to the Walter Camp and Maxwell Award watch lists. Both awards are for the player of the year in college football as voted on by their respective foundations. Royster rushed for over 1,100 yards in 2009, and as has been talked about exhaustively, is close to breaking Curt Warner's record for career rushing yards at Penn State.
Obviously a nice haul for the Lions. Nice to see Moye and Crawford especially get some recognition for their hard work.

Come some explain something...
Do these watch lists really mean anything or are they simply an FYI to the voters to keep an eye out for these players? Are players not on the list still eligible to receive the awards?
Nationally....
they are simply FYI lists since nobody can possibly watch everybody…..it’s an example of pre-season team rankings in that if you’re not ranked high to start out with, it’s very difficult to impossible to contend for the MNC if you start out ranked around 25 or so. Some good players never get a look unless they play in the “featured” game each and every week. We will see how some of our guys “look” after Alabama.

Well, the QB will certainly have a few tools to work with
Hopefully the O-line is solid enough this season to provide solid protection.

I would rather all awards be handled with these "watch lists"
instead of “preseason player of the year” type BS that the Big Ten does. At least a watch list makes sense: these are the guys who are likely to win it at the end of the season, so watch them.
