Robert Bolden Is Penn State's Starting Quarterback
Wow. I'm on information overload tonight. As if the Big Ten divisions weren't big enough, now this. The Harrisburg Patriot is reporting that Robert Bolden will be the starting quarterback for Penn State against Youngstown State this weekend.
Two sources close to the Penn State program told The Patriot-News that true freshman Robert Bolden has been named the starting quarterback for the Nittany Lions' season opener with Youngstown State Saturday at Beaver Stadium.
One source said all three quarterbacks were informed of the decision prior to today but were told to keep quiet.
This is history, folks. In 45 years of coaching, Joe Paterno has never started a true freshman at quarterback on day one. I can't wait to see what this kid can do.

Excuse me
I had a Boldengasm a about 10mins ago, now I need to clean off the walls in time to cover the Big Ten Divisions.
Penn State isn't just football, it's life.
@Ben_Jones88
this kid is either bad ass,
Or we’re in a lot of trouble.

As long as he won it outright, I'm pro this decision.

No problem
I didn’t have a picture of Bolden in stock. And the pic above is Shane McGregor.

Or the coaches just plan on keeping the offense very vanilla,
but think they can execute it.

I have no reason to doubt Flounders but
I will not believe it until he takes the snap.

Ummmm
I’ll wait for confirmation before getting too excited by the concept of Bolden starting. Anonymous internet rumors are often just that.
My feelings too
But I can’t help but feel kind of giddy about this…
Wow
Starting a true freshman is always interesting. Best of luck for him this year.
It never gets to be easy
That said
I am pumped if this turns out to be true!
Interesting
Any possibility this is a little gamesmanship leading up to the Bama game, maximizing how much screwing with Saban’s head we can do?

Time for me to eat some crow
I said Joe would never do this, it would never happen. Oh well , get me a plate it’s nom nom nom time.
I wonder if this means Joe is relinquishing even more power than ever before?
*HEAD EXPLODES*
Holy crap. The past ~24 hours have officially blown my mind. Information overload indeed. But so far, it’s been all good news (well, mostly—I obviously don’t have the best feelings about the Ingram thing).
Congrats to Bolden. He must really be a special talent to win the job after only a couple months with the team. I can’t wait to see what he’s capable of.

I am really excited to see how much this kid grows over the next 4 years.
Looking forward to the Kevin Kolb era.

HE gave me the lotto numbers too
But you made fun of me so I’m not sharing.
I’m off to the 7/11 to get some powerball tickets. I’ll be posting from my boat in georgetown with a ton of hot chicks in the near future
He's the next Ron Powlus?
Somewhere there is a cedar chest full of Penguin sweater vests.
Beat Youngstown State.
No!
Powlus and Curry were nothing but clowns.
Curry was a no talent joker that recruited highschool kids, paid off parents and provided said parents with jobs at the power plant.
Powlus and Curry clowns?
Curry’s only the winningest High School Footbal Coach in PA history. 6 State Championships 2 MNC’s… Far form a clown, guy… If he did recruit players, there are only 2 in question and niether of their parents worked at the powerplant.
Powlus made a poor decision going to ND. That system did not fit him and he still set all there passing records…
You must be from Berwick
Because only a berwick homer would think that Curry didn’t cheat. It’s well documented…hell he had a 23 year old left tackle on that one team.
Just saying Curry is not a clown
and 23 year old tackle is quite an exaggeration.
Curry and Berwick did not win because of two kids that moved to the school district to play football…
Berwick must have beaten you regularly for you not hate them like you obviously do… Where you from, Valley West?
I saw Powlus..
play when I was in elementary school. He was really, really good. He was pretty good at ND, but he was hyped up way too much.
If only I had an enemy bigger than my apathy. . .

Awesome news!
I feel a little bad for Newsome, but I’m stoked to have a 4 year QB (maybe 3 if he’s that great).
"God is great, beer is good, and people are crazy"
I guess I know whose picture I'm posting on Friday at 11!
I would have been happy with any of the QBs (believing the coaches know better than I do), but I believe the fact that Bolden has been made the starter is a sign that he’s incredible, not that he’s less mediocre. Everything that I’ve read about him since the spring has impressed me greatly. Go State, beat the Penguins!!!
For the glory
Collegian has a statement from Paterno:
Penn State coach Joe Paterno issued this statement on Bolden:
“Based on what we have seen to this point, Bolden has a slight edge right now, but we are confident all three quarterbacks are ready to go and hope to give them an opportunity to play until we settle on the one that gives us the best chance to win.”
Let the controversy commence.

So basically
We’re not showing our hand to Alabama until the last possible minute.

“Yeah, That freshman kid is totally going to be our quarterback! Yup. It’ll definitely be him. There are literally no other options. We have no other quarterbacks on campus. Those other kids were all myths. Haha, funny how that worked out, huh? What? Oh, my eyes aren’t shifting, I’m just a bit, um, cross-eyed…”
I can't believe
that the conference thread has more comments than this one. I understand that’s the larger issue, but still.

Well
Considering this topic is spread across a post on the main page, a Fanshot, AND a Fanpost, not to mention sprinkled about the two open threads on the organization of the conference, I’m not surprised in the number of posts here.
Give it a day and people will shift their focus back to the team and this wildly gonzo announcement.

Don't remind me.
I think I’m going to have to lock myself in my dorm and install some sort of soundproofing, lest I terrify some of the poor unfortunate souls who live in this hall.
Eh
I think everyone knows we’ll see all three guys on Saturday no matter who starts. And in a few weeks this will sort itself out.
The conference divisions will affect schedules and history for the next 25 years or more.
Because Michigan and Ohio State are evil and Jim Delany can suck it.

When I saw this, I thought
“He could be the next Daryll Clark.”
You know what, I want him to be BETTER than Darryl Clark. Go 4-0 against Ohio State. Win a National Title (one Nebraska won’t screw up). Just play with the heart of Marcus Robinson and the downfield vision of John Stocco. Just be the best QB that Penn State’s ever had.
Good luck.
The various schools of the Big Ten should let Ohio State and Michigan know in no uncertain terms that dissent will NOT be tolerated.

Yes.
But Marcus Robinson was one heck of a WR in college (or so I heard)

I'm a little disappointing there isn't a Drudge-like SIREN...
…to introduce the post. Otherwise, Wow!
If anything
this has made me very excited to watch the Youngstown State game, and I didnt know that was possible.
i shouldnt have said very excited
i guess i should have said Id be paying attention more to the game then i would otherwise. Im just interested to see Bolden in action. I know Youngstown isnt a great Litmus test, but it’ll be nice to see what weve been hearing so much about
