Penn State Depth Chart & Injury Report: Purdue
Just a minor change to our Friday schedules. Jeff's injury report post has merged with my depth chart post. It's not really a big deal, but in case you're wondering.
Official Penn State Injury Report
TB Brandon Beachum - foot - possible
TE Garry Gilliam - knee - out
CB D’Anton Lynn - head - possible
DE Pete Massaro - knee - out
LB Michael Mauti - knee - out
WR Derek Moye - foot - out
RB Pat Zerbe - knee - out
Notes: Moye fell down the stairs. Whether it was after a few drinkity-dranks is up to who you talk to. Now he's wearing a protective boot on his foot and will miss at least the next two weeks. Fortunately, Purdue and Northwestern aren't world-beaters on defense; but if Moye has to miss more than two weeks, it could spell trouble against the final four opponents, all of which have decent defenses. Beachum and Lynn are still technically listed as "possible," but we've been hearing/reading that at least Beachum will return this week. Morris was practicing all this week.
Moving on.
Penn State Depth Chart
Ehh...
I'm not sure if Beachum or Lynn will return this week. But I'm inclined to think this isn't an urgent game to push those guys back too soon from injury. Morris is back in the lineup opposite Powell. It's a shame Amos will likely get bumped back a spot, despite such a fantastic game last week against Iowa. I thought two weeks ago that Belton wasn't playing, but he did play the past two games. Not much else changed this week, except for Moye. And Smith is the likely replacement, since Smith has started in the past. But, well, ya know...

My uneducated quick opinion
Lynn plays, Beachum isn’t needed (Thunder/Lightning shirts still two weeks away), Amos still sees plenty of time, Urschel finally makes the move permanent, and McGloin plays more than 85% of the snaps, though Rob gets off the bus first.

Ouch on Moye...
Damn, that’s tough luck.

I hope he also
isn’t a liver injury. We’ve had enough of those.

Well, for Purdue anyway...
1. It’s Purdue
2. With wind gusts expected to be up to 45 MPH, the offense may be limited to a ground game anyway so that should mitigate not having Moye in the line up.
I'd start Haplea in place of Szczerba.
Szczerba had the catch off the umpire’s foot, but beyond that he’s been more of a liability than an asset. Multiple stupid penalties, dropped passes, etc.Saturday’s TD catch was Haplea’s first of the season, but I’d put him on the field to try to get more. Shoot, move Cadogan back to TE if you need more depth.
(And, yes, I realize Szczerba deserves a bye for the Temple game, after tragically losing his uncle. He has derp’d it up in other games, so I’d park him for awhile.)

Prior to his tragedy
All I remembered was him getting sunk and fumbling on the 50 after Bama scored to make it 7-3 and we were driving from our 20.
In the end Szczerba and Haplea both start as we run a 2 TE set with Brown as a Flanker and Smith as a Slot Back

Amos...
looks much better than Morris. Sadly Joe won’t ever start a freshman over a senior.

Yeah, I agree
Joe has shown a much greater willingness to start underclassmen over the recent past
