2001: Penn State vs. Ohio State: Joe Paterno breaks Bear Bryant's record wins 324th game
Over my blog, I recall one of the best games I ever saw, the Oct. 27, 2001 between our Penn State Nittany Lions and the Ohio State Buckeyes. Like a lot of Penn State Ohio State games in Beaver Stadium, the scoring ended early in the 4th quarter and the game became a defensive struggle. That sure beats the last two visits from OSU.
Funny how 10 years later, Joe Paterno is tied with an all-time wins leader again. That time it was the Bear for the I-A all-time record. Now, Eddie Robinson and the all-time Division I record.
I have two videos in the post. Enjoy.

Hard to believe it’s been 10 years!

Joe does have a way of getting the win
when he needs it to break a record.

I was lucky enough to be at that game
Was int eh senior student section with my brother who was a senior at the time. I was one of the loudest things I ever heard in my life. The game started awful for State, then once Mills broke that td run out, the fans could just sense that this could be something special here. Then once the game was in our hands, the entire stadium just lost it. I was screaming and couldn’t hear myself. Will never forget that day. Still ahve the ticket and look at it and just remember how much fun that was, and how loud Beaver Stadium can get, without Guido’s “help”.
I was there, too.
And also in the senior section!

I had the incredible good fortune
to be sitting in the Paterno family box for that game. I was living in DC at the time and had already sold my season tickets to that game. But I had the luck to be in law school with Joe’s niece, and we knew we had to be at this game after PSU beat NW to tie Bear’s record the week before. She got me some great seats, obviously. Before the game, I helped SuePa set the table at the Paterno house for the postgame dinner. After the game, I chatted with Jay in the kitchen and then met Joe when he came in to get a drink. He got me a beer from his fridge and said “Ahhhhh, nawt another lawyer” when I told him what I did. (I should have said “well, it was either law school or football coach,” but I missed my chance.) Then he signed my ticket. Overall, one of the greatest days of my life.

Drinking with JoePa is highlight
That’s even better than drinking with professors.

Probably Old Granddad
That’s what Jay said he drank The Joe Paterno Debate: Whiskey. He might not be drinking anymore though according to Lou Prato
Of course, baronlion would have the actual answer…

Yes...
This would put to bed all the rumors for me…actual confirmed visuals! I want to make sure I have a bottle handy whatever it is

Joe's been known to drink JD if Old Granddad wasn't available
A friend kept making the argument for Jack Daniel’s for a post-game toast instead of bourbon. I called him a philistine. He finally wised up when he discovered Maker’s Mark.
Old Granddad is not anything special, nor is Basil Hayden which is just Old Granddad that has been aged longer.
