Its on us now...

Two separate but related comments...

First, the actions of the Board of Trustees last night regarding Coach Paterno feel reactionary and petty - a final power play against a man who they've been trying to remove for years.  While the grand jury results were released this week, we've all known about the allegations and the seating of the grand jury for quite some time - all the BoT posturing this week should've been done months ago if they really cared and weren't just fighting a PR war.

That's water under the bridge this morning...  Hopefully the BoT will be removed as well...  Nothing can repair the lives of the real victims, but slash and burn throughout the community is not a restorative plan either.

Moving on...

Coach Paterno will forever be linked to and tainted by this scandal - right or wrong.  Its up to us to make sure that the ideals of Paterno's Grand Experiment remain intact.  Success with Honor sounds hollow now, but it is still something that we as a community should stand behind and continue to try and embody.  We've had one face at this university for a long time - now that responsibility falls to the rest of us.

I'll be out on Saturday supporting my team... see ya there

If we're going to slash & burn

without all of the facts, it’s a shame there isn’t a ‘recall election’ function where we can move out some of the BOT for their inept handling of this situation.

am i the only one who thinks the BoT actually handled this well?

the university is a living organism. there are two routes it can take-remain supportive of those who brought this scandal upon us, or purge those individuals for the greater good of the institution. doing what is necessary for the greater good to prevail is EXACTLY what paterno has been preaching for decades!

i’m a huge paterno supporter. i refuse to allow this to tarnish his legacy in the book of personal opinion. he was far too great for that. he made a mistake. a terrible one, but a mistake none the less.

and now he has to pay for that. he still represents, for me at least, everything that makes penn state great. success with honor. integrity. and ACCOUNTABILITY. debate however you want about whether paterno did or did not do enough. debate whether he enabled this depravity to occur. what is important to note is that JOE ACKNOWLEDGES that in hindsight, he didn’t do everything that he could have.

but the BoT did what it had to do to begin the healing process. this will be much easier for joe (and spanier, et al) to do as individuals than as a stain on the community at large.

the university is doing what it needs to do to establish itself with some credibility moving forward.

Depending on your perspective, the BOT did either too much, not enough, or the wrong thing.

Paying Curley through all this doesn’t sit well with anyone.

A pandemic of cowardice sweeps the nation.

oh, i agree with this x a billion

if one is gone, they are ALL GONE equally. same goes for the legal fees. shameful, disgraceful way to drag this on longer. PSU, trim the fat and move on.

I think Joe Paterno did what needed to be done to begin the healing process.

The Board of Trustees sacrificed him to an angry mob to satisfy their appetite for blood.

Let down by my football coach. Disgraced by my University.
