Video: LaVar Arrington Speaks At Candlelight Vigil

Via.
Presented after the jump, as this is one of the all time worst video players the internet has ever seen...
Although I find patting yourself on the back for doing selfless things a little contradictory:
So I think it's safe to say we've seen a shift in mood. This is a complex situation, not a simple case of every character wearing either black or white. If you need another reminder of that, go read Posnanski again.

Penn State is still nothing but a bunch of pedophile rapists if you watch the news

Me neither
I have yet to see a news report that accurately reflects the information in the GJ investigation, assuming everything in it is even true.
GO IOWA AWESOME, now and forever, unless PSU sees them in the B1G CG

I haven't watched the local or national news in almost 15 years.
They’re a joke. And I don’t need anybody to tell me what is news and how I should think about something. The internet has made the broadcast news obsolete in my opinion. I can get a myriad of varying opinions on any subject online, take them all into account, and make up my own mind.
What I've learned should be done from the media (especially the Pgh media):
-PSU football should be eliminated entirely.
-PSU students are horrible for rallying around Joe and should all be lined up and shot.
-I should kill myself because I attended Penn State.
-All other alumni and fans should also kill themselves.
-Any high school kid who wants to go to Penn State is insane and not worthy of living in our oh so civilized society.
-Any parent who lets their kid go to PSU should lose custody of all their kids and sent to a concentration camp.
-State College should be nuked.
-This is the worst thing ever to happen in the history of mankind.
You'll get that from the Philly media as well
So many people just waiting for this to come crashing down and the piling on is disgusting. I’ve known this for a while so shouldn’t be shocked.
I'd feel a lot better about our chances today

I love PSU's chances to lay the hammer down
1) PSU has been the better team all year. Better S&P+, F/+, Annar Ranking, Sagarin Ranking, and record against common opponents.
2) PSU is at home
3) PSU will be mad as hell

I'm stupid...help me out.
I’ve learned a lot reading BSD and need educating again so please help me with this.
I keep hearing how PSU should have at least canceled the game today and probably the entire season and maybe just given up football completely. So I’ve thought about all this and can’t come up with how doing any of that helps or accomplishes anything other than spreading the harm out even more to the innocent current players, merchants, students, ushers…vendors…ticket takers…maintenance workers, et al, fans, etc.
I know it would make I guess a lot of self-righteous people feel good, much like wearing a ribbon for a cause (while doing nothing else) does. But I just can’t see how it helps any of the victims in all of this to any real discernable extent.

It doesn't...
Some how cancelling a game shows that football isn’t that important blah blah blah. To cancel the game, PSU would have to retroactively forfeit it’s first 5 conference games, otherwise Neb, OSU and Wisky get an unfair advantage.

I read a comment similar to this on an article covering the RAINN campaign
Someone posted that they thought it would be a nice gesture if Penn State donated all of the proceeds of today’s game to organizations like RAINN in honor of the victims, and continue to do that until the football program was no longer able to financially support itself, and then close the program in honor of the victims.
I’d typed up a very not-inflammatory response explaining that, while it would be a nice gesture, the football program supports virtually the rest of the athletic programs at Penn State and that gesture would affect thousands of student-athletes who had NOTHING to do with this atrocity. And in fact, could add to the victims’ guilt and referenced the lawyer that came out and basically said that about Joe’s firing.
Then I started to go through a convoluted process to get registered to post and lost it. And didn’t have the energy to go through it all again. (But I’m going back today.)
People don’t know all of the facts when they make suggestions like this. Again—it’s an emotional response. Which has been 99% of the average person’s reaction to this. I get it. We’ve probably all done the same thing in other instances. It’s just getting tiring to deal with it all.
But all the more reason why, in the face of such irrationality, it’s important for us to try to remain calm and rational. It will infuriate some who want a reciprocal response, but it will work with a lot of folks. And it’s HARD—because we are all still dealing with the emotional fall-out ourselves. But we’ve got to figure out a way to make it happen.

The worst thing for ESPN
Is if everything just went by like a normal Saturday and PSU won.
They would HATE that.
Strike that - they'd be pissed if Nebraska won
Then they couldn’t harp on how unfair it is that Penn State actually played
PSU is in a no-win (pun intended) situation with ESPN.
No matter what happens or what they do, it will be wrong and loudly criticized.
ESPN hasn't even been the worst actor...
guys like Andy Staples, Jason Whitlock, Buzz Bissinger, etc. have been falling over each other with faux-moral outrage.

Good Luck to You Guys
Michigan Fan & Graduate Here…..I live and die with my school like I’m sure most of you do here as well. I’ve always been a fan of Penn State and everything that you guys have embodied…respect you guys as a worthy foe and rival of my institution.
I went through hell the past few years with what happened in our program….which, after the past week in Happy Valley, really puts things into perspective for me.
The next few months, even years, are going to be very difficult for you guys on many levels. I for one will say that I support you all and am excited to see how you all as an institution, alumni base and fan base respond. With few exceptions, I like what I’ve seen so far…
My advice – Don’t concern yourselves too much with what the media and opposing fan bases say (it’s easier said than done, trust me.)
Best of luck guys. Do what’s right and stand up for what’s right. I’m very much looking forward to seeing you guys on the field again soon and once the dust settles, for Penn State to emerge stronger and better than it was before (both on the field and in general.)
GO BLUE!

But I hate his employer. Plus it’s really not his fault that sports is so shallow that there’s really very little insight to be given on anything.
Random thought....
You know those university “propaganda” ads that usually air around halftime? (All games, not just us.) I’m guessing it’s too much to hope that the PR geniuses at PSU have pulled ours in favor of a PSA on RAINN or something similar…

Outsider Opinion - Bradley
Should’ve been in charge (officially at least) for the past five years.
JoePa was way past his time and should’ve retired years ago. Shame the way it ended for him the way it did, but I think it would’ve been better for all parties if he would’ve retired and handed the reins to bradley a couple of years ago.
Just my two cents

This is what Joe Paterno was about. He made so many players into great men and leaders. LaVar Arrington is a shing example of that. As bad as how it ended let’s not forget Joe’s legacy.

Looks like Zordich was leading the charge, and they all seemed ready to play. Here’s to hoping they come out and win one for Joe.
