I drive right at the speed limit, at 2 am I stop at flashing red lights, etc. I realize there have to be limits in order to maintain civility and decorum, but I also realize that stressful events create a huge range and depth of emotions. Therefore, the limits of tolerance should be stretched during those times of extreme stress. Honestly, I don't know what led to each of these folks being banned. I did stumble across part of a debate between jtothep and one of the mods, but didn't lock onto it enough to know it would lead to the bannhammer. I will say that, IN MY OPINION, that particular mod was thin-skinned in some instances AND was engaged in some self-congratulatory postings: He posted letters from non-PSU fans that essentially praised him for criticizing some opinions that were counter to his own. Perhaps I don't perfectly understand the nature of BSD. I thought it was a public forum that was sponsored by a few gracious folks. Is it instead a bully pulpit for a few, with those few only tolerating the rest of us (esp. when our posts happen to coincide with the party line)? As I have mentioned before, I think BSD has been far above the other message sites; thus the bannings come as a shock and disappointment. I will stress again: I do NOT know exactly what led to the bans. I am posting this to ask that the tolerance limits in these stressful times be broadened, not curtailed. I agree that respect is important and that personal attacks should not be allowed; beyond those vague boundaries I hope that it is recognized that the events of this week have been hugely disruptive to us all, and that strong reactions are to be expected.
