Black Shoe Diaries Podcast: Ohio State Preview With Ramzy Nasrallah
Well, if anyone can appreciate being at the bottom of the media dogpile during a scandal, it's our friends at Ohio State. Ramzy Nasrallah from Eleven Warriors joins us to talk about the Buckeyes, their dynamic offense (pretty sure Ramzy thinks the OSU offense makes PSU look like the Air Raid), and the joy of being trolled by Sports By Brooks.
Afterward, Kevin and I have basically had it. We discuss the trainwreck Sandusky interview, Mike McQueary's ethical dilemma, CBS News' empty promises, and much, much more.

I saw a girl crying tonight. When I asked why she said: "Because everybody lost."

It was all a dream, I used to read Word-Up magazine.
The CommVault folks came out and said the comment wasn't from their organization.
Just so you know.

I've been saying all year
that as bad as PSU’s offense is, OSU would trade for it in a heartbeat

You had Ramzy for a full half hour
and didn’t ask him about Kirk Herbstreit once.
Ramzy is to Herbstreit as I am to human polls. It would have led, at a minimum, to an amusing rant.

On the rumor to take down the Joe Paterno statue outside Beaver Stadium?

At least the BoT would be
consistent in their cowardly mishandling of this ordeal. Let’s wait to exile the statue until the (home) season is over and the students are all comfortably far away from campus enjoying their turkey dinners .

Funny thing about Kansas State "safe" reference.
Drove down the Coach Bill Snyder Highway to Bill Snyder Family Stadium last week to watch the Kansas State-Texas A&M game. There were many times the student section did the "Bi-ill Snyder clap clap clap-clap-clap " chant. It felt like I was in an alternate universe where everything was the same except for the people involved.
Obviously there is not a whiff of controversy with their program, but the blurry line between respect and reverence of head coaches can be observed everywhere.

Logic with McQueary facts
McQueary says now that he went to the police.
Either he did go to the police or he didn’t.
According to the Grand Jury’s report, there was no file on the case.
If McQueary did go to the police, then either (1) there was so little evidence of anything that it wasn’t even worthy of a report, or (2) the alleged “cover up” is much bigger than even the fringe reports now seem to think.
If McQueary didn’t go to the police, (3) his credibility is virtually gone.

If McQuery's credibility is gone
then so is the eyewitness of the 2002 allegation.

Yeah
(1) and (3) help Sandusky’s case big time and make me think much, much less of McQueary. (2) is even worse.
Sadly, I don’t see any logical way out of those three scenarios, if indeed the “McQueary says he went to the police” stuff is true.

Unless Gary Shultz is the police!?!

That's different
McQueary was apparently talking about going to police not named Gary Schultz and aside from the meeting he had with Curley and Schultz.
Whether or not Gary Schultz is considered police, and the PA AG certainly doesn’t think he is, is a different issue.

I never knew we were so secret. We are like the Federal Reserve.
There's so much idiocy in that video that I don't even know where to start
1. That PSU is public. Not really. People want to cast every school into digital public / private categories, and that’s just not the case. Penn State has a contract with the state of PA (as does Temple and Pitt) that they offer lower tuition and admissions standards to PA residents in exchange for tax dollars. Other than that, PSU is private, or at least every bit as private as Notre Dame or Harvard.
2. That PSU could release the records if they wanted to. No. Just no. That’s wrong. Pennsylvania’s body of privacy laws specifically prohibit anyone (gov’t agency or not) from:
• Giving unreasonable publicity to another’s private life
• Using publicity that unreasonably places another in a false light before the public
While you could argue that releasing those records might not technically do either of those things, you could also argue that they most certainly could, especially if Sandusky ends up acquitted of some (or all) of the charges.
3. That the police chief wouldn’t answer questions. Of course not. It’s an case, and there’s no manhunt involved. Just like Sandusky speaking on TV the other night, the cops talking to CNN cannot possibly benefit the prosecution.
There’s more. Those things stuck out.

Nothing especially sordid about the Paterno House transfer
of ownership. How has the media forgotten that Joe Patero is OLD?
I don’t know what Joe and Sue’s net worth is, but I have a hard time imagining it being lower than the estate tax exemption. (The credit for estates of individuals dying in 2011 effectively exempts $5 million from estate and generation skipping taxation).
True transfer of assets to a spouse goes free of federal estate tax, and the new estate tax laws make the credit portable between spouses, but as a couple if you have more than $10 mil (or less for many circumstances) in assets you still might consider a credit shelter trust or ther estate planning vehicles to minimize the amount that ends up in the government’s hands instead of your heirs.
In short, naming the $500k house in Sue’s name only, saves $500k of estate tax credit for other assets without the use of a trust.
