#freesuepa UPDATED: So, yeah, maybe not
UPDATED: Looks like this was something of a hoax. PSUMark2008 added this Onward State link in the comments:
Penn State Pools Closed Over Break To Everyone, Not Just SuePa
Okay, somebody may have successfully tricked Sara Ganim (and me, others), who has been the lead reporter on the scandal. It is too bad, because Ganim has been doing excellent work on this painful story. I am sure some people blame her. Those people are not very bright and hopefully don't have Penn State degrees.
ORIGINAL: Sue Paterno was told she's not welcome to use on-campus swimming pools. Really.
What has she ever done to deserve that treatment? She's a distinguished alumna. She is in no way involved in the Sandusky scandal. He got to use campus facilities for years after he was allegedly raping a boy in a shower.
Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?
Let's get #freesuepa trending. People have lost their minds at the alma mater. Maybe we need to get her on the BoT next election.

If this is accurate, PSU has clearly lost their mind
It’s as though they’re BEGGING me to never donate another dollar again. For anything.
I want to love you Penn State, but you’re making it near fucking impossible.

This sounds like just rumor to me
But if it is true, I would have to wonder about the priorities of the decision-makers at PSU. You can placate the media’s Paterno vendetta if you want, but it comes at the expense of REALLY angering your alumni.
Said decision-makers would do well to remember that the media is not their primary source for donations.

I started to read the comments on the pennlive article linked in there,
that will be the first and last time I do that.
Would you believe
The comments have actually gotten better since this whole thing first broke. At the beginning, there were a forest full of axes grinding and a whole lot of pent up stupid just vomiting out for all to see. There’s been more pushback from people with IQs lately, but generally it’s still “Here Be Dragons” territory.
From what I could see
It looked like there were really only two real jackasses who just kept dropping the same piles over and over.
I’ll tell you why. Because we’re talking about Joe Freaking Paterno here.

You would think
A few mil would get you access to facilities. PSU admins have lost their minds.

SuePa used to get her own lane while we practiced
And, honestly, we were cool with it. This is dumb.
If so, panic.
Pure Panic.
Nobody in the university with any remote semblance of authority has a single gut left.
If so.

I'm laughing
in my soul of course. I’m beyond human emotions related to my shell.
I’m a shell, btw.

Thank god for small favors.
...may we compete with fierce intensity, with the gifts that we have been given...
Just spitballing here
But I wonder if perhaps the Patriot-News climbed up on this nag for the “irony” angle (IOW, Sandusky seemingly has the run of the facilities after he’s supposedly [wink wink] banned, now SuePa is actually banned, gosh isn’t that ironic, send to a friend).
Outrageous if true, hilarious (for the P-N) if not.
Or, if the PN was spun this by some in the Paterno camp.
Which is equally dumb. Was she told yesterday morning that she couldn’t swim that day, or ever again?

Glad they have not apparently targeted Sue Paterno.
Yet.

Hope it was a hoax
Otherwise this has to be even more idiotic than they have been acting. As the OP said, I want to Love Penn State, but they’re making it near fucking impossible.

The latest #freeSuePa news
http://www.pennlive.com/midstate/index.ssf/2011/11/campus_pool_didnt_ban_sue_pate.html
So was she or wasn’t she “turned away” because she was Sue Paterno? Regardless, it appears that cooler heads are prevailing in all of this. It is a relatively small matter in this grand drama, but for some reason, it particularly chaps my ass that a good and caring woman, pillar of our community and Distinguished Alumna of Penn State would receive such shabby treatment. I reserve judgment until we learn with finality that the right thing has, in fact, been done.
The depth of both my sadness and anger is unfathomable.
