Sandusky Indicted on Forty Counts; Curley and Schultz charged with perjury and failure to report
This sounds very bad and could bring the Paterno/Curley era to a very ugly and sad conclusion. I hope and pray the charges are untrue.
EDIT: Sorry, didn't know this was already being discussed. Here's a more complete thread: http://www.blackshoediaries.com/2011/11/4/2538515/bad-news-for-jerry-sandusky

The Sandusky charges were expected.
The charges against Curley and Shultz (who, among other things supervised the campus police) are shocking. If this gets to Paterno, it will destroy the program and damage the university in a way that I didn’t think would be possible.
Works on contingency? No, money down!
JoePa not charged
He reported a suspected charge of abuse to Curley. It would certainly explain the cool relations between them towards the end of Sandusky’s career.
This will be ugly for a long, long time.
Already the haters have labeled us “Pedophile State University” and are trying their best to ignore that Joe reported the suspected abuse situation to Curley. If Joe was planning to retire at the end of this year, he may try to hold on rather than face the criticisms such as “He is retiring to avoid being indicted/accused of covering up/etc.”
Guys, don’t misinterpret my concern as throwing Sandusky/Curley/Shultz under the bus. I am a strong believer in due process. BUT, I am also not naive, and can foresee this being used against us in everything from recruiting to schools who cheat pointing at us and saying, “Well, we may have football players selling unis for tats, but we don’t condone a pedophile coach.” Be prepared for the ignorant, cruel haters to come after us.
"Make haste to reassure us, I beg you, and tell us that our fellow citizens understand us, support us, and protect us as we ourselves are protecting the glory of the Empire.
"If it should be otherwise, if we should have to leave our bleached bones on these desert sands in vain, then beware the fury of the Legions."
JoePa may have to stay...
…because he will be the only credible person PSU has left. If what the indictment says is true, he did EVERYTHING that Pa. law requires when presented with a reasonable suspicion of child abuse – report it timmediately to his immediate superior, who has responsibility for either passing it to his superior or if it is his responsibility, to report it to the authorities. Again, IF the charges are true, not only did Curley, Sandusky, et al. fail the children, they failed him and his honesty.
And I think had there been one whiff that JoePa had done something wrong, he would not have failed to be indicted. There are people in high places that have resented him for years. It would have been a major coup for the Attorney General to bring down Joe Paterno.
Only alternative
Would be for JoePa to retire from coaching but return to his position as AD. I somehow don’t see that happening.
Assuming he can stay clear as he has so far...
…this is not a bad idea.
