Don't Punish the Players
We all feel sick right now. It's going to get worse. A sick man (allegedly) did terrible things. Others did wrong in the aftermath. Lives were ruined and the children won't be the same. I can't fully comprehend it right now and there is still much that we do not know.
I do know one thing. Not one player on this team has anything to do with this. They have played their hearts out and found ways to win. I don't care if you think the QB's suck. I wish that was all we had to talk about. But we have a shot at winning our division and even the B1G.
I have seen comments and tweets that people are not going to the game on Saturday in protest. Guess what, Curley and Spanier don't care if you come or not. The players, however, do. They often praise "the best fans in the country" on Twitter and in the press. Both Devon Still and Jordan Hill have tweeted me in the past to say thanks for the support when I said something about them.
Don't give up on them because of what is happening at the top. It's not their fault, it's out of their control and they don't deserve it. Go to the game. You can be proud of them and still be disgusted but what is going on.

Thank you.
I was thinking the same thing. These kids have worked their tails off this season. They deserve our support (even if others related to the program have us questioning our beloved school).
Please put this on the front page Chris/Mike

Well said letsgo
After reading and thinking about this for most of the day…..I have come to realize that sometimes human beings do terrible things, and when people who are supposed to know better and supposed to be role models do these things we let that influence the way we think. This does not change the way I felt the first time I saw the Nittany Lions run out of the tunnel as a kid. It doesn’t change the time I spent with my family going to games. It doesn’t change the 4 years I spent at Penn State. It doesn’t change the way I feel on Saturdays when I see Blue Jerseys, White helmets and Black Shoes. And it doesn’t change my pride in being a Penn Stater. Joe Paterno created this machine that is Penn State, and he will see us through this. Root for this team, I’d love to go to the game saturday. This is still your school and the actions of a few shall not destroy the perception of so many. WE ARE PENN STATE and nobody can take that away from us

"Make haste to reassure us, I beg you, and tell us that our fellow citizens understand us, support us, and protect us as we ourselves are protecting the glory of the Empire.
"If it should be otherwise, if we should have to leave our bleached bones on these desert sands in vain, then beware the fury of the Legions."
you know
May no act of ours bring shame was not written by Sandusky, Curley, Shulz, or even Spanier, they just happened to be individuals who at this point in time haven’t lived up to those standards. Success with Honor was coined by Joe and all reports are that he did the right thing like he has for his entire career, so thats how I’m going to look at it

Alma Mater
I’ve had that verse on my mind all weekend. I’m going to the game on Saturday, and it’s going to be hard not to cry during the alma mater when I sing that verse. :(
I doubt anyone on BSD would ever allow this to sully the
great support we show for the players (despite the back and forth over the QB battle).
I’m feeling good about the next two weeks given what I saw of Nebraska and tOSU today. Wisconsin still scares me a little, but I think the next two can be "W"s.

But that’s because I wasn’t planning on it any way. I will be watching-wearing my white #6 jersey as always this season.

that's different
saw a tweet today that said “sold my tickets to a Nebraska fan”

I saw it too
Back downstairs for the second half. can opnly tweet from my phone-no BSD on it.

Argh.... if I actually came across a person who told me they did that I would punch them in the face
Well, probably not, but I would tell them in very strong language that I disagree with their standpoint. And then I would try to figure out someway to extract punishment on them in a non-physical way… (can you tell I’m trying to avoid assault charges?)
The players have worked so hard for this season.
Caught up in this whole unspeakable mess are the current players, completely innocent from any of this. It is understandable that there will be fans who will no longer be PSU fans at all, or for the rest of the season, or for the next week, whatever. Reactions will vary. I keep going back to what the players were put through in fall practice by the coaching staff, reading all of their tweets on how they were selling themselves out for us, the fans/alumni/students/psu community. The kids continue to give maximum effort, even if the QBs have been shaky at best. Our defense has laid it all on the line many times over this season, and our o-line has battled to the very end. We owe them our support for all of their sacrifices.
I'll be there cheering my heart out.
These players deserve our support.

Support our team...
..Let’s make this weekend a game that we will talk about years into the future!
http://www.facebook.com/#!/event.php?eid=285773161453579
I'm feeling angry and good bit hearbroken.
The media’s gonna come down so hard on the program, but I believe that things will work themselves out in the end.
I just hope our team doesn’t get blamed for any of this, 8-1 is no easy feat, and I believe they can get even farther.
A plateau is a high form of flattery.
This program has faced adversity before
we’ll get through this troubling time, no doubt. While I can understand the frustration people feel regarding this travesty, boycotting football games is basically saying “I refuse to support the student-athletes. Clearly, cheering for these student-athletes is supporting the unthinkable doings of a former coach.”
Well, it is a former football COACH who has been charged, along with the current AD. NOT the players. If anything, attending the game would be a rallying cry by fans to stay the course, through thick and thin. Let the justice system deal with Sandusky and Curley. Next Saturday, let’s support the TEAM, and the great institution of learning that is PSU.
One (or two) men will not ruin the legacy of this great institution. Someone who refuses to attend the game is in fact allowing this very thing to happen. And PSU fans are better than that. Go State.

I don't know what I'm going to do
One of the JPDH guys tweeted something yesterday asking what people would do and my intial reaction was that I wasn’t going to punish myself because of these people’s actions. This is a huge game, the last home game of the year, I’ve got friends and family who will be in town. It’s going to be fun. And I can get on board with the idea that it’s not the player’s fault.
But, my wife and I have been talking about and something just doesn’t feel right about putting on my Penn State gear, singing the fight songs, and cheering for the football team. I’m not proud of my alma mater right now.
We’ll see how the week plays out.
156 of producing leading men and women throughout all industries and fields.
No reason to let the actions of a few men keep you from celebrating the heritage of Penn State.
Now, if there was some sort of systemic, illuminati-type stuff going on, I could totally understand your plight…
I'm going
and I agree with the post. We all need to suck it up for the final home game of the season. It’s senior night and right now we need to support the players. So for the time being let’s do our best to calm down, regroup and focus on discussing the big game this Saturday. Btw, the Noon kickoff time blows.

I am glad I am not the only one who feels this way.
I am obviously disturbed by the events that have transpired and my heart goes out to the victims but it is ridiculous to allow the actions of a few evil men to ruin my love for Penn State and PSU football.
I am further bothered by my fellow Penn Staters who have rushed to conclusions about Coach Paterno and his involvement in the incident and are seeking his immediate resignation. I am not defending him and saying he couldn’t have done more, but we do not KNOW what happened so we cannot pass judgment at this time.
In addition, I am disappointed that people believe that boycotting the football games will do any good. At this time, do you really think Curley cares how many people show up to the game? You know who does care how many people show up? The CURRENT PLAYERS!!! They were not involved in this madness and do not deserved to be punished. In fact, they need our support more than ever right now. Their coaches and staff are the ones caught up in this. They are the ones who have to use the facilities that were tarnished by these disturbing acts.
Therefore, I pray that the fans show up in support of the players who have given their all this season, especially the defense. This is the time when we need to unite as a community and show that such despicable acts will not bring us down, even if our “leaders” are a poor representation. While we all have our personal views and opinions on Spanier and Paterno, in addition to the sick bastards being charged, we all need to continue supporting the players and not let this news ruin the season, especially with the difficult stretch of games that lies ahead. So I urge everyone to show up Saturday and to be loud and proud, even if it is only for the players.
WE ARE!!!

PENN STATE!!!
Well said, Napalm — thanks very much!
I feel a litle bit the way I did after 9/11 — to change is to let the bastards win. I recognize this is a huge blow to our fine institution, but have to respect due process. Whatever the result, it is just one event in a history that dates back to 1855.

Truth.
A jury won’t add more years to Sandusky’s sentence because someone didn’t show up for a game.
This is enough of a media circus already that the leadership will now over report jaywalking tickets juuuuust in case.

Excellent post
I really don’t understand the “fans” who are thinking of not going to the game or not cheering, and being ashamed of their degrees or being a fan of the university. Wanting to harm Sandusky, Curley, and Schultz I completely understand.
Things may be OK Saturday
at the last home game of the year. But I worry about the reaction from the fans at OSU and Wisconsin stadiums. I can only imagine the kind of signs and banners our guys may have to look at in those stands, what kind of taunting they may have to hear.
Columbus and Madison are the two cities I always hesitate to travel to
And that was BEFORE all this crap. I can’t imagine what those kids are going to do (not say, but actually DO) to the Penn State fans and players that travel for the games.
OSU fans have had physical altercations with PSU fans in Columbus in the past (I’ve been victim of one on a non-game weekend for Christ’s sake) but now that they have an outlet I’d be seriously concerned about traveling to the city. And I’ll be frank; I’m sure a lot of it has to do with the fact that Columbus is the largest city in Ohio and has more than just students living there.
