A thank you to BSD moderators/editors
Running this blog cannot be an easy job.
You manage hundreds of thousands of alumni the majority of which walk around with a passion trumped only that by the religious radical. You deal with the Philly/Pittsburgh divide, and scare the Ohio State trolls back to underneath their bridges.
Covering this story cannot be easy.
It challenges everything that we know not only as Penn State football fans, but as human beings. There is a clear divide between "clean house" and "let the facts play out" people. What is clear is that this is a forum by which people can express their opinions freely. The has led to some surprising discussions, as some consistent commenters have seen their opinions diverge from the expected.
This is not an easy situation to manage, and I commend you for it. I also respect your opinions and appreciate what you post. More than that you've provided excellent news coverage for that, and for that I commend you for getting out of the basement and doing some solid work.
Aww, look at you. You created a Fanpost! Any content from a premium site that requires a subscription will be deleted once we catch wind of it. If you simply want to share a link, quote, or video, please consider using Fanshots instead. Thanks.

"As my grand jury testimony stated, I was informed in 2002 by an assistant coach that he had witnessed an incident in the shower of our locker room facility. It was obvious that the witness was distraught over what he saw, but he at no time related to me the very specific actions contained in the Grand Jury report."
JUST PLUMB PITIFUL.
No Way Does Joe Not Question Mike twelve ways from Sunday about what happened.
I would make sure I knew what he was ‘Distraught’ about.
This is NOT A ROUTINE EVENT.
It is ONCE IN A LIFETIME, FELONY, SCARE THE SHIT OUT OF YOU AS A RESPONSIBLE MANAGER EVENT.
You do not walk away without 100% knowledge of EVERYTHING Mike new.
Believing anything else is denying your own common sense.
I do not believe that JoePa is a heartless, modern Machiavelli who manipulates the bureaucracy to make sure that he covers his own tail while the entire institution falls down around him.
I believe that he just flat out made some bad decisions here, and, unfortunately, has to face the music.
He has a chance to correct this pathetic statement tomorrow, at his press conference.
I pray that he changes his story to something that I can believe.

And then we have asshats like Joe here
Who, in a post that has nothing to do with debate itself, posts the same comment he’s left in every single other post here today.

Rouge - I will take Joefromboalsburg comments any day of the week of your BS
You are blind in your statements on here over the last 3 days IMO.
You are trying to defend the un-defensible. MM and Joe both dropped the ball and failed innocent kids.

How many times does it have to be said...
Schultz WAS the police.

Schultz was NOT the police
He did/does not have a badge. He did/does not carry a gun.
His title was Senior Vice President for Finance and Business. He was an executive at Penn State that the Police Department, like Human Resources, reported up to, but he was not a law enforcement officer. Saying he was doesn’t make it so.
I wouldn't trust old rooster me neither.
Police Commisioners don't wear badges or carry guns either
…and Schultz was effectively the Police Commissioner for University Park.
Saying he wasn’t doesn’t make it so.

So now it's gone from he didn't do enough
To he went too far up the chain
I'm saying this isn't the appropriate place to do it.
We have a ton of other more appropriate places to do it.

He obviously feels strongly about this, and you can’t blame someone for expressing their opinion about something as polarizing as this. Again I appreciate the moderation of free speech on this site.
This isnt a QB competition, this is the destruction of lives. If it requires the copy paste of comments then so be it

This thread isn't about the debate.
It’s a thank you to the people who work on this site.
There are a billion and one places to repost the same comment over and over and over again and this isn’t really one of them.
Unless it was your intent to get the debate started here again too?
"We are not normal, We are Legends. People will tell their kids about us." - Deon Butler before Ohio State Game 2008.
In that spirit, can we move debate back to say, "Defending Joe Reflects Poorly..." ?

Youre right, that was my intention, I was just trying to reiterate that I appreciate the freedom of opinion that is going on.
I’ve had posts shut down in the past for much less than restating dramatic positions on a controversial issue.
I really did mean to give a shout out to the BSD staff, I posted on their slowstates site (yes I was one of the 6 who did, which makes me wonder where M1KE is.), and I am happy that they are here now.

From another thread....but stand by my words
I think Joe and MM are both cowards.
MM can’t walk away…I thought of every possible excuse but the facts are he was 28 year old man and he didn’t defend a 10 year old boy from being assaulted.
I also think Joe is a coward for not asking the tough questions to MM…IF he did ask the questions (although he denies he did) then I have a bigger problem with him not calling the Police ASAP.
I think some will and some won’t agree…but that just how I feel.

And I think that is the point
at this stage, nobody is “right” or “wrong” in dealing with these thoughts and feelings. I did a lot of thinking last night and as somebody said in a thread yesterday, I will no longer argue with somebody over their stance. Each and every one of us are rightfully upset at this horrific story and those that want to clean the house have as much of a case as those who want to take the innocent until proven guilty approach. Not to start the discussion here but just wanted to post this based on your some will agree and some won’t comment.

I'm still digesting all this and have yet to definitively make up my mind (but I'm close).
But what Sweep wrote is pretty much where I am with this right now, too.
I’m trying to put myself in their shoes…which is hard because I did not and have never experienced anything like they did. But I’d like to think if I saw what Mike did I would at the very least have screamed “HEY! What the hell are you doing?!!!”, and hopefully have done more even if it meant having to physically tear the creep off the poor kid. And I’m even more sure that if I was in Joe’s shoes and was told about it I’m going to definitely ask and do my best to find out EXACTLY what Mike saw. And if he can’t bring himself to tell me about it, I’m gonna ask him again at a later date.
That’s what I’d like to think I’d do and I honestly think I would have. But I can’t definitely say I would have. You really don’t know until you experience it.
This whole thing sucks so bad.
Well said.
While there is no objective standard, mine has always been centered on what I hope I would have done under those circumstances which is not to say I would have done it. And, frankly, I hope I would have done more.
wholeheartedly agree
I watched people get incensed about Mike Vick’s transgressions and as a Vick fan, I hate what he did, but this is much much worse, and I don’t have children. I can only imagine my reaction had that been my child. (of course had these children had male role models this is statistically less likely to happen) I think JP’s behavior merits his resignation, he has earned the right to not be fired or dragged through the mud, but he should resign immediately. Everyone else who knew should be fired. To anyone who says don’t jump to conclusions, i think a 3 year investigation and 40 charges plus indictments of others, means he is probably guilty as hell. To deny this is like OSU denying Tressel was wrong or that Miami was clean.
This goes well beyond sports, this is a societal and moral issue. And Sandusky crossed a line that is unacceptable. What would you do if you saw someone doing that? How could you not stand up to them? How can you not follow through? I would argue that you should be more adamant about it if it is someone you have known for 32 years. This is a terrible circumstance and I hope that in the end there will be some separation in the minds of the masses between PSU and the wonderful things it represents and the atrocities committed by Sandusky and allowed by the staff.
I apologize, but I thought that this was explicitly the purpose of this thread.
Kudos, BSD, for letting us crackpots regurgitate the receptions of our foil-protected hurting brains.
Meanwhile, I will not settle for bullshit-on-a-shingle press releases.

Thank you Mods
I’d have to imagine that there has been a lot of work to do on this site over the last 3 days. Also, thanks to the posters, there is clearly a huge divide between how we all feel about what we’ve read and heard so far and largely the debate hasn’t gotten particularly ugly despite it having what has to be thousands of opportunities too. The maturity shown here is encouraging that we may yet survive this.

I can't wait for Anderson Cooper to show up at the Press Conference Tomorrow?
Coach, are you going to start Bolden or McGloin on Saturday?
Its either that, or we will be looking at the reincarnation of Stonewall Jackson.
What’s the over/under on the length of time on this press conference?
How many questions will be about the football team?
Does anybody really care at this point?
You know what makes me sad?

It will get shut down if there are too many questions about you know what.
They’ve already given the reporters the ground rules. We know they’re gonna break them. If they get too persistent either it gets shut down or Joe walks out (which would look really bad on him).
Agreed
Just like everything else in this situation, this press conference isn’t going to end well. Everyone in the media and a lot of fans are expecting Joe to expound on what happened and apologize or something, but I’m sure it’s safe to say that’s not going to happen. Joe’s going to say he can’t talk about it or that we need to focus on Nebraska.
do not
listen to mad dog radio…they are completely going on emotions and no fact right now i was appalled at some of their comments after they ADMITTED TO NOT READING THE REPORT
It's everywhere
Mike and Mike are talking about it constantly this morning. They have reporters camped out in HV just like they did with Brett Favre. Like everyone else has said, this is going to get much, much worse before it gets better.
This whole mess
has actually opened my eyes to just how large a part of my life this institution is. I almost feel like this is a personal matter on the grandest scale in that while millions of fans like myself are not personally involved it still resonates through the halls of our lives and maybe i have to reevalute just how large a part this school has in my life, being a Penn State fan has become synonomous with being myself for so long. I never attended penn state i was just a kid from rural huntingdon county who loved a football team, however, i forsee that for the next few years we as fans will be called upon by the masses to answer for this scandal and no matter how hard we try to distingish between the depluable actions of a former coach and the plight of 22 kids on a football field no answer will suffice
Because it's a Bowl Game!!

Good post and I was about to post the same.
Thank you mods, first of all for allowing us to express all of our opinions and thoughts on this website. It cannot be easy, with such a hotly divided subject that hits all of us right in the square of our chests, but you have been able to let us (for the most part) politely debate and express our feelings/emotions/thoughts on something that hurts all of us.
The fact that you have left this website open for us to channel our feelings is a testament to the faith you have in us as posters and your willingness to put in the overtime to monitor such a delicate situation.
Leaving all politics out of this, the BSD team has done a superb job on still managing to post new content, both relevant to this situation, as well as being able to continue on as normal (such as the excellent basketball primer).
Hopefully we can and will all get over this, but being able to express my thoughts and expressions on this website has helped me to cope and deal with my frustrations and hurt – I hope it has been able to do the same for others.
WE ARE…
We have little tranquility but tons of tranquilizers.
Thanks everybody.
Hope we’re providing a mix of of facts, clearly labeled opinion, and non-scandal items for you. It’s a tough week to run this place, and probably not going to get any easier.
