CDT article on the Student-Administration "Town Hall" Meeting
I post this link for one large and one small reason. The small reason is apparently Erickson did not wear a tie with Golden Gopher colors (thank you). The large reason is for the following three paragraphs that were in the article: "In response to one question, Vice President for Student Affairs Damon Sims referred to his time at Indiana University, where longtime basketball coach Bob Knight was fired. "Bob Knight and Indiana University seemed to be synonymous with one another," he said, adding that it wasn’t long after that that the university came to be known for other things, including academic excellence. "This is truly a great university. It had a great football program. I suspect it will continue to have a very successful and great football program," he said. "But I also think this is a wonderful opportunity for all of us to find new ways to demonstrate to the world how excellent we are in every other respect." I'm not a fan of some of the current Student Affairs staff but to see these statements by a senior (not top-level) administrator, makes me concerned. Using Indiana as an example: unless I'm mistaken, their B-Ball program has been in the toilet since Knight left and also been sanctioned by the NCAA. And I'm unclear as to how their "reputation" for academic excellence has increased since then? Also saying PSU "had" a great football program -- what kind of backhanded compliment is that? Just throwing it out there.
