Yesterday the university president was going to have a pow wow with media and students to discuss "issues."
Today Penn State announced they are going to give $1.5m to "advocacy groups" related to child welfare.
If PSU were playing on Saturday, instead of an ad for the university we'd get to see the prez get on and apologize again.
Enough is enough.
What's done is done. The more PSU tries to "get out ahead of this thing" and keeps apologizing, keeps paying money, keeps beating their chest, the more this story is going to live. The more we're going to get to see Sandusky's name scroll across the bottom of our screens the rest of the year.
Syracuse's scandal is bad enough, but the continued movement on PSU is continuing to overshadow it and permit (1) Boeheim and Co. to avoid the full weight of the media storm that hit Penn State, and (2) the continuation of this nonsense.
Penn State will be paying tens of millions in damages or a settlement soon enough. Save tuition and tax money, stop holding pressers and apologize, and move on. It's Sandusky's problem, not the university's anymore. Continued attention by the university on this point dilutes the focus in the public's mind, stretches this out further, and will only incentivize further lawsuits.
