Recruiting: 11W Interviews Camren Williams About OSU Visit
This one's going to be a dogfight, and will depend almost entirely on the PSU hire.

Yeesh
I knew Meyer would be a great recruiter but I didn’t realize he’d only be recruiting kids who had already committed to other schools.
This is the guy who also reportedly would use Paterno’s age to recruit as well.

If it depends on the hire
and the hire depends on the BoT’s hiring committee, well he is as good as a Buckeye.

Agreed
Kiss this class good-bye, can’t say I blame anyone for jumping ship…hell as a self proclaiming kool-aide drinker myself I have had to be pulled back from the ledge because of The BoT’s handling of all this about 100 times

Schutt, Pittman already.
Williams, Spence possibly soon, along with five-star QB Jameis Winston.
Hate you, Urbz.

This is why we need
to hire Jim Cantafio IMMEDIATELY if not sooner.
We need a motivator who can fire up the troops!!

Cantafio
I had him as a gym teacher circa 1993 before he left my school. We only won about 1 game per year after he left (after being in the state final a couple years prior).
This is in no way to be construed as an endorsement of the above comment. He was much more mellow as a gym teacher than the stories I’ve heard from family that has played football for him.
I’m having a hard time grasping how a program can thumb its nose at the NCAA and the general public…and come out arguably AHEAD of where they were before their scandal. When is the NCAA going to push down any sanctions on OSU? Is that soon?

I don't think Meyer is going to have Tressel level success (i.e., dominate the B1G for the better part of a decade)
Wisconsin is good. Michigan State is good. Nebraska’s here and Michigan looks to be back. If we get a B+ or better hire, the B1G could be brutal in the coming years.
That said, I agree that O$U does appear to be escaping public scrutiny on this, though we certainly have contributed to that atmosphere by providing a scandal that makes tats and gold pants look tame by comparison.

Michigan State is good because of Cousins
He’s gone after this year. They’ll be Sparty again soon enough.

Yeah, well even if I agreed with that, MSU is in the other division
so it’s more important that Wisky is good, Michigan (protected rival) is good, and I expect PSU to be good. I think MSU and Michigan may run the other division for the next few years.

MSU is good because of their defense
though Cousins helped. I think they’ve turned the corner and will be reliably decent as long as Dantonio remains.
I wouldn't trust old rooster me neither.
I don’t see that happening either, mainly because I don’t see Urb hanging around for a decade. It just annoys me that a program like that can actually violate NCAA rules and seemingly get away with it, while PSU didn’t violate any NCAA rules and the program is looking like it is circling the bowl.
I don’t know if it is the 3 cups of Starbucks, but I’m almost in full-blown OH NOES mode.

Yeah, and It's only going to get worse for the next couple years
Imagine our offense now has to deal with a defense of Schutt, Williams (likely), and Spence for a few years (until they bolt early for NFL). At least we will have Joey O’Conner a bunch of random walk-ons to try and open up some holes for Redd.
Well OSU
doesn’t have a President or BoT that is falling over itself to discredit it and lower it’s prestige.

That's because they're too busy worrying
that the coach will fire them.

I think the wrong reaction is: we need to hire a coach yesterday
In light of all this, it’s prudent to wait. Camren Williams seemed like the least likely guy to jump ship, as he was Mr. PSU 5 weeks ago, and arguably the most valuable recruiter. If he’s looking at leaving, there’s little a new coach, even if its Vince Lombardi, could do to keep him. And it’s hard to blame these kids; Devon Still tweeted something about how all of the football team’s (and individual players’) accomplishments are getting subsumed by the scandal. That’s true and it will remain true for likely at least another year. In that context, it’s perfectly reasonable for a kid to jump schools, and it will likely happen however the new coach is.
Therefore, I think the hiring committee needs to keep doing what they’re doing, i.e. being deliberate and focused on getting the absolute best guy for the job. That’s way more important to the long-term health of the team than this recruiting class, which again, is fucked regardless.
I wouldn't trust old rooster me neither.
Not too mention people are really getting hot and bothered about nothing. Reading the interview I came away with the thought that he seemed really interested in Penn State still, just waiting to see who the coach is. Seems really understandable to me.
I think it’s funny everyone here got all worked up when the media and board rushed to judgement and fired Joe. Now so many are foaming at the mouth about not rushing through hiring a coach. The fact of the matter is we are an instant gratification society.
