Like a great many of my fellow Penn Staters on this site (and most other places too), I have given up on the "editorial" side of ESPN and its family of networks. This isn't entirely due to sour grapes born out of their undeserved vilification of Joe or their hypocritical handling of the Syracuse scandal, but the long build up of a great many irresponsible journalistic decisions, many of which we are all very well aware of and have been covered on here in the past.
But since I gave up on ESPN and ESPN.com, however, I have missed the 24 hour sports programming I had become so used to. I've switched to CBSSports.com for my online news (their coverage seems to be much less one sided than ESPN's, except for their somewhat frustrating devotion to the SEC, but not everyone's perfect), but haven't found a suitable TV replacement.
What great timing for the new NBC network to crop up, eh? It may end up being no better than ESPN, but now that NBC Universal is taking over Versus, I'm really excited for its launch. I love everything else that NBC Sports does (Sunday Night Football is far superior to MNF, their golf and tennis coverage is great, and even though I'm a West Coaster and not as die hard of a hockey fan as I'm sure many of you guys are, I like what they do with it. Plus, Bob Costas and Dan Patrick are sure to be big players in the new channel, and they're lightyears better than anything The Mothership has to offer.). Add that to some pretty cool promo spots, and I'm all kinds of pumped for the Jan 2nd launch for the new channel.
Who's with me?
