(Thankfully) Interim Athletic Director Joyner has announced PSU won't have a coach by January 3.
Evidently he'd like the new coach to be able to have some time to converse with recruits before national signing day. However, he's "not going to let that dictate if there are a couple days one way or the other."
I know I posted a few days ago my rant about the ineptitude of this coaching search. Many of you used that board as a place to vent (which was good). Others tried to latch on to an anonymous report about an agent that labeled the post as "toxic" as a basis for ranting about my position. I recognize that this is a time of ongoing sorrow for all Penn State fans so I won't push it (although I think I satisfactorily answered that in that board).
Fundamentally, I thought we should all take note of this further development and recognize that it's nothing but bad news for the program. In short, it further evidences the idea that when you have too many cooks (or in this case educrats) in the kitchen (or committee) it's always going to ruin the stew.
I suppose I wanted to use this as a further opportunity for folks to rant. And perhaps as a call to action. The school has really taken a hammering in the press. The school seems to be content to do nothing other than apologize (or perhaps to subconsciously sabotage the program by ineptly handling this coaching transition). We as fans or alumni need to rise up and insist on this nonsense ending. Perhaps we'll get a great coach. Perhaps we'll be stuck with Eric Mangini. But either way, this needs to be the end. No more apologizing. No more wailing and gnashing of teeth. No more sorrow. Only the fans, alumni, boosters and donors can bring this to a close. Somebody needs to tell ESPN that the game is over.
There's still more honor in Joe Paterno's pinky than in the entire brothel that is the Ohio State Athletic Department.
We are a proud program. We are a great school. We are...
