And it'll be a better bowl game than most bowl games

Totally agree
After all that has gone on this Fall, it is great we get to play such a quality opponent. On another note, how excited must the Ticket City Bowl be to have a near miss BCS team v. a 9-3 Penn State?

Actually though, this is impossible
We can’t fall farther than the insight if the Big Ten sends 2 to the BCS. A 7-5 team can’t be picked over a 9-3 team in regards to the Outback, Capital One, and Gator Bowls. The Insight Bowl can’t select a team that has a worse record
We literally have no shot to go to the Ticket City Bowl

Ugh, I've heard this and the other on the ESPN Big Ten blog
The only two bowls that have that “record rule” are the Capital One bowl and the Outback bowl. After that it’s every man for himself.
Yes, and occasionally I watch CNN
I mean honestly, if I want to watch sports, I have to watch ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, or ESPN3. CBS SportsNetwork and Versus only carry so many live events I care about.
I was being a bit facetious but
I consciously try to watch any ESPN network less since their handling mishandling of our situation.

Are they? I thought they were structured as to how I posted it.
Well, that’s disappointing. Couldn’t find anything on the BTN site that said other wise.

That said, I still haven't read anything definitive about the Insight Bowl
Has Iowa confirmed a bid? I know jNW accepted the bid to the Texas Bowl in Houston against A&M.
I think we're still in the running for the Insight
And I’d imagine the 1.5 million would help us. Iowa’s name carries weight, but I really can’t see a good reason for us to get passed up by the Insight

You have to figure we would never have been chosen for the Texas Bowl
Wasn’t JS’s last game on staff against A&M? No one would want to touch reminiscing about that.

Big Ten #7 team
What a crock of you know what! Below Iowa, NW, and Ohio.
But nice welcoming quote from Tom Starr.

It's not Detroit...
…and it’s the best possible opponent we could get. I’d rather play Houston in this bowl than Florida, Texas or A&M in any of the other bowls. Just wish the game was on real TV (ESPN U doesn’t count). Other than that (and my resentment to the haters making bowls not want to take us) I’m happy with the bowl.
Bah
From a purely selfish perspective, I’d love to play in Detroit. I live in Houston and am traveling home to Cleveland for the holidays for the first time in 2 years. I got excited at the prospect of driving to Detroit to see them play, then got depressed because they’ll be playing in Dallas which is only 3.5 hours away.
:(
The offenses against the 100 student athletes...
currently on this team, just continue. They had NOTHING to do with this mess!

Players are NOT happy on twitter
"It's not just linebackers. This is Penn State linebackers, man. We're a certain type. We've gotta be aggressive, relentless, focused. Don't talk. Don't talk at all. We don't showboat or anything. We just play hard and get the job done." -Khairi Fortt
This just in.....
verbatim…Tom is pissed beyond words (his words). I really feel bad for the Team and Coaches. This group of jagovs that passes for a BoT has made this about the FB Team and Joe from the get-go. We all know that thiss is 180 degrees from the truth as we know it. The constant PR ploy that they want the new coach to have the program steer its purpose to integrity and academics is a kick in the groin to Joe. People that read this crap and have merely a passing interest know a few things for sure: Joe is a pedophile and ran a child abuse ring..Joe’s FB program had a very low graduation rate and was immoral, deceitful and dishonest for 61 years and say that he got cancer because he deserves it. Just the other day, I had on a PSU jacket and wore a Steeler hat. A passerby noticed that I must support child-abuse. I pointed to my hat and said, " Don’t forget, I support rape too, because I root for Big Ben, you a$#hole"! None of US are “happy” anymore. TB will not get the coaching job, unless I’m 1000% wrong, because they think that by cleaning everyone out, the Press will stop asking questions—what idiots! When they “refired” Joe on friday via a conference call in which the people(Who voted?) from theirs homes or otherwise was just the continuance of an Institution of higher learning—-a very good one in fact—-that has lost its way because of a NON-employee, Jerry Effing Sandusky, who still is the Ringmaster of the circus along with his sleaze-bucket lawyer. The days are getting to be sadder and sadder and not just because WE got a sh&t Bowl Bid. WE will be paying for Jerry’s indiscretions for a Long, Long time, especially with the bunch of ’toons that are presently in charge of all of this mess.

Do not know the rules
Will Paul Jones be able to get in for some experience (if coaches so choose) seeing how it will be a new semester?
Can someone please
give me a list of the bowls and/or corporations that sponsor them that so I can send them nasty emails threatening them that the entire Penn State Alumni Association will be boycotting their products?
When you put those black shoes on tomorrow, and you put on that jersey without your name on the back, and you put that plain helmet on, that's tradition. Penn State tradition!

Should be fun game
and glad it is on Jan 2nd, but holy crap this just confirms my hatred for most of humanity.

And also
I am really starting to hate Rodney Erickson and Dave Joyner. I mean I know they have to say something respectful, but just reading their quotes pisses me off.

Hate is a good word to start with....it's OK.

I may be the only one thinking this, but...
While the way we’ve gotten to this bowl really sucks (getting passed over), I’m really excited about the match-up. Going to be a really fun game to watch.

I think it's a good match-up too...
but it’s like playing Boise. You’re expected to win and no matter how good the other team is they are from a non automatic BCS qualifier step child conference. And fair or not, If you lose it casts more of a negative light on the program than if you lost to someone from a major conference.

It'll be the only one I watch......
while hoping that the entire B1G loses, excepting Dear Old State, Dear Old State.

Crap, they will be trying to.......
restore good ole Boeheim’s and Fine’s reputations. When it comes to apologies and the truth, tWWL couldn’t care less….WE ARE or will be small potatoes by that time. And the central figures who have benn slandered and libelled, might not be around, so to speak, and nobody of import will care anyways…..just us plain old pluggers that cannot wait for the trial and the real dope to be published.

what does the ESPN ombudsman have to say about ESPN's hypocrisy?
Isn’t that his/her role to call out stuff like this?

ESPN U ???????
Bwahahahahahahaha! Why don’t WE just have a Blue/White Bowl Game and award the winner the Joseph V. Paterno Trophy. Wait, what? I’m not joking. Damnit, I’m serious!
"The truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, so help me God."
What a kick to the freaking balls
The second lowest bowl game (7th) that B1G is tied in with, and they pick the 5th best team for it? And then OHIO STATE gets the Gator Bowl?
It is my new goal in life to make it onto the BoT to restore some honor to the nutless crew of bitches.
And maybe have some success while doing it.

Alright, lets look at the good side of this:
1- A time slot to ourselves. Our game will start an hour earlier than any other bowl
2- The Cotton Bowl. Historic, and if we white out the cotton bowl…
3- It’s vs Houston. That’s a better match up than Ohio State and Northwestern got
4- It’s still a January first bowl
5- This should be the most energized team we’ve watched.

there are no January 1 bowls
because the 1st is a Sunday, NFL has a monopoly on Sundays.

ESPN owns the Meineke Car Care Bowl
This may be common knowledge, but I just learned that ESPN is actually the owner and operator of the Meineke Car Care Bowl (in addition to 6 other bowls listed in the link below). So, basically, the network can slander or build up a team to justify specific bowl selections/payouts? I’m generally not a conspiracy theorist, but the influence the network has on sports it covers continues to amaze me.
