Better article than I anticipated
And goes a long way towards changing my perception that he is a moron.
Best quote of the article comes from Joe, back when Quarless was in the doghouse…
“He was spoiled. There’s nothing worse than a hot shot from Long Island.”

agreed on all counts
much better article than I expected, and completely turned my opinion of Quarless around. Didn’t know he completely gave up drinking (at least while at Penn State).

ha i copied that quote too
but you beat me to posting it
I wouldn’t give a hoot in hell for a man who lost and laughed.
Best line for me:
“I was [lucky] enough to have God on my side — and Joe. He gave me that chance.”
"I’ll drink through the weirdness." - Illegal Formation
He was also on his left arm

Good article.
It had me at “Andrew Quarless took a walk of shame across the Penn State campus.” Mr. Quarless, I would like to introduce you to my old friend Jenn Brown, Junior, Economics.

Sophmore.
Racism, cannibalism, I leave those things to the suits in Washington. I’m just here to eat a dude.
sophomore last year.
Assuming the long walks in the morning haven’t affected her academic standing too much, she’d be a junior now.

Really?
She wouldn’t be a grad student by now? Or on “I didn’t know I was Pregnant”?

You watch that, don't you?

I had a summer class with Quarless
and I always seemed to pass him on Sunday mornings on my way to church. I can’t say I knew him incredibly well, but I knew him. He’s a genuinely nice guy who had some growing up to do. I don’t know that he succeeds the way he has without tough love from Joe.
I've got the brains. You've got the looks. Let's make lots of money.
Yep, kids gotta grow up
That’s what I like about not oversigning. It gives the kids who need some tough love a chance to work it out instead of cutting them from the team. And if they’re still good enough to play while being immature 18 year olds, then it teaches them a life lesson that they don’t get when being treated as primadonnas. I mean pre-madonnas . . . . aka ciccones.
You could have traced my path to his house north of campus
by the trail of vomit I would have left if I had to face Joe like that. That takes balls.
Agreed
That’s the type of story you want the guys on the team and incoming recruits to read and hopefully understand. Even though Joe takes a lot of flak for being such a hardass and being tough on kids in the doghouse — there is always a reason and it is usually tailored to the needs of that individual.
He is looking out for your life – not just your football career.
