Lady Lions Look For Sweet 16 Against DePaul

Coming off a big win against Dayton on Saturday afternoon, the Lady Lions will look for an upset against third-seeded DePaul in the second round of the NCAA Tournament tonight at 7:00 P.M. this evening inside the Bryce Jordan Center with a spot in the regional semifinals on the line.

The Blue Demons have run up an impressive 28-6 record this season, including 13-3 record in Big East play. They defeated 14th-seeded Navy on Saturday in round one at the BJC after the Lady Lions had disposed of the Flyers. DePaul boasts four players averaging double figure scoring. Keisha Hampton averages 15.8 points per game, Felicia Chester averages 11.3, Anna Martin averages 10.9 and Sam Quigley averages 10.2. You can check out an excellent feature on Quigley by Andrew Robinson of the Daily Collegian here.

Penn State will look to improve upon a turnover plagued game against Dayton. The Lady Lions turned the ball over 13 times against the Flyers, allowing the 11th-seeded team to remain in the game until late in the second half. It's likely that will be a recipe for disaster against this solid DePaul squad, so coach Coquese Washington will likely make ball security a priority in preparation.

However, on the flip side of that, Penn State will likely look to keep up the defensive pressure that forced 22 Dayton turnovers on Saturday. After the Lady Lions switched to a three-quarter court press mid-way through the first half, Dayton seemed to be knocked out of its game plan. As guard Maggie Lucas told the Collegian, pressure will likely be key again.

"If it wasn’t for that spurt we made when we got a bunch of steals in a row when they were up by eight points, who knows what would have happened," Lucas said Sunday. "That press energized us. Without that, who knows if we would have gotten back in that game."
